pgcd (pgcd@mastodon.online)'s status on Tuesday, 05-Nov-2024 00:13:54 JST pgcd Dear everybody, I was already let go from my job (we had a very different opinion on several things, which is a pity because the team was good)
So, if you're looking for a very good #Django developer or a CTO with reasonable experience with a bunch of stuff, please get in touch. If you're *not* looking, boosts are a nice thing, you know.

pgcd (pgcd@mastodon.online)'s status on Friday, 04-Oct-2024 01:27:06 JST pgcd @Nichelle I tried to read Campbell (what with being a Star Wars fan in the '90s, it was kind of the done thing) and failed, I'm afraid - the prose (at least in IT translation) was just unbearable.
I have read & enjoyed Hamilton's Mythology around the time when my children were born so memories are hazy, but I *think* I remember her being very judgy about the darkest parts of the mythology (and related cults), which I can understand but detracts from the "folk horror" part of my search =)

pgcd (pgcd@mastodon.online)'s status on Thursday, 03-Oct-2024 22:46:30 JST pgcd #books recommendation: is there something like a less racist Golden Bough? I love mythology and folk horror and Frazier delivers (no, I don't believe what he writes, but I still find it entertaining) but he was, well, pretty bad.
I am aware of real anthropology, mind, but it's not really what I'm looking for; I'm talking about something with lots of old gods, strange rituals etc. Kinda Lovecraft-y but also real (or real-adjacent, like Frazier).

pgcd (pgcd@mastodon.online)'s status on Tuesday, 06-Aug-2024 21:07:04 JST pgcd @tillshadeisgone to put it differently, if I were the project manager of everything, I'd allocate something like 20% of "resources" - be it money for bounties, or developers, or time - to fix mastodon while the rest goes towards the new project(s).
This way there's a realistic chance to fix mastodon sooner, and if that doesn't work you still have the hard fork - which is *not* going to take less time than fixing mastodon. -

pgcd (pgcd@mastodon.online)'s status on Tuesday, 06-Aug-2024 20:58:48 JST pgcd @tillshadeisgone i have tried to engage as much as possible and of course I want to see more Black people here (and not on x).
My point is not the money, it's the resources - I'm a developer (not Ruby unfortunately, else I'd contribute actively) and in my experience "let's redo from scratch" often ends up wasting everybody's time.
But I shared your original, didn't I? So the attack is a bit unwarranted, maybe? -

I may be misreading but it seems to me that Renaud isn't *against* making the needed changes, and he's only lamenting the lack of resources.
Given that a hard fork isn't free by any means, wouldn't it be more cost-effective to help Mastodon do what they're saying they want to do anyway (eg. blocklist sync etc) and make sure they work on those features until the place is deemed safe by the Black community? -

pgcd (pgcd@mastodon.online)'s status on Monday, 27-May-2024 21:37:12 JST pgcd I live in a timeline where node.js is "fast thanks to javascript" while python is "slow because it's an interpreted language".
Does anybody have a ticket to the timeline where words have meaning?

pgcd (pgcd@mastodon.online)'s status on Monday, 27-May-2024 21:37:10 JST pgcd @fence "node.js is fast" I can take, it's the part where being an interpreted language is a problem with python but it's :chef's kiss: with JS that gives me pause

pgcd (pgcd@mastodon.online)'s status on Tuesday, 27-Feb-2024 16:33:25 JST pgcd Where would a rather good and very senior #Django dev and middling CTO go to find a new job that meets these requirements:
1. reasonable salary
2. no generative AI
3. ideally for something that actually benefits humanity as opposed to, say, harms humanity
?
