   I've been using Mint (Cinnamon) exclusively for the last four years or so, and I'm generally completely happy and satisfied and I don't miss Windows at all.

   Except for one thing: Windows terminal.

   And actually just one part of Windows terminal: being able to give different names to tabs.

   I don't want to use a different terminal with AI bullshit or anything, I just want to have different names in tabs.

   Anybody?

     if your $TERM starts with xterm or rxvt, the following may do the job:

     @pgcd@mastodon.online @lxo@snac.lx.oliva.nom.br Correction: I misspoke earlier! While you can set the tab name (the text label) and customize its color, you cannot actually change the color of the tab itself (what would be even better indeed). Apologies for the confusion!
     
     By the way, xfce4-terminal can also automatically set unique background colors per tab (when configured). It’s a subtle but helpful feature for keeping track of tabs at a glance.

Compared to other GTK-based environments like GNOME or Cinnamon (which I’ve used less extensively), Xfce delivers unmatched granular control across its toolkit. It’s a philosophy of flexibility! 🐁🎛️

     There is no real need to change your desktop environment at all, just install xfce4-terminal, test it and later set it as the default terminal emulator if you like it. When we talk about GTK-based DEs, their tools are pretty much interchangeable. I use Cinnamon's calculator on Xfce. ☺️

     The single reason why I'm using Cinnamon is the WinKey+number shortcut. I started using around 2008 and I'm honestly unable to function if I don't have it, so I picked Cinnamon and just sort of stuck with it
