I'm operating on a strict definition of retribution as punishment.

I don't believe that harming someone simply because they have done harm is helpful, although I can understand how it might be desirable and satisfying.

@rhempel That's actually a really good question that's made me think about why my current image of the process is as it is.

I think because what we do tends to have a lot of deadlines and milestones, but not TOO much interlocking stuff (as yet), I like the visual aid that Gantt charts provide.

It's likely that, for example, a project management tool that somehow integrated with a calendar to show blocks of time that had to be occupied by each task (rather than simply due days) would also work - I'm not wedded to Gantt's system so much as having a visual illustration of this kind.

@domo I already run Nextcloud, so I'll take a look at Decks, thanks. :)

(Although I'm currently in the irritating position of having to migrate of a Snap based install of Nextcloud, which was an extraordinarily poor decision by past me.)

I would be prepared to consider proprietary software if I can just buy a fucking license once and then run it on my own PC or server and never interact with the company again.

Absolutely no cloud-based services run by third parties.

Must-haves:

• It needs to run on Linux (either locally or on a server I control)
• Gantt charts
• To-do listing of some kind - Kanbans are fine, but other approaches work too.

It would also be nice to have the ability to assign tasks to multiple users. This can be by email or just within the program, but I need to be able to label tasks as assigned to different people.

I do not need that to be a live self-hosted service, although I don't mind hosting one if I have to. (Is this something Odoo does or am I misremembering?)

My main focus is production for publishing and gamedev, with teams of <10 people.

However, I also want to be able to use it for standard business management stuff.

I had forgotten by now the Old Japanese transcriptions so I looked it up for reference for this toot and it's weird how nostalgic and emotional one can feel about a table of orthographies for transcription of eight-century Chinese characters adapted for representation of a stage of Japanese phonetics that nobody but some weird nerds still care about. yo-no-naka pa natukasiki-mono to ara-mu :owocry:

I find this trend in car design incomprehensible. I'd find this so fucking distracting while driving, especially at night.

At least it means entire categories of vehicles equipped with unnecessary anti-features are helpfully ruling themselves out of my (already very price-limited) options.

That said, my approach to cars is very much that of someone who would rather be on a bicycle whenever, so fuck knows what more typical car users find convenient.
