thinking about the guy I once spotted slagging off my work in some forum or other, and wondering if he remembered the time we were in the same pub irl and I went home with the girl he'd been flirting with, or it was just a coincidence

I didn't interfere with the flirting, incidentally. I don't do that weird competition shit the cishets do, if she wants to sleep with someone else that's her business.

so I have heard of this now in two totally unrelated places and the second informed me they're doing a kickstarter

it's called Date Like Goblins. A dating thing but built around playing games together. And it's not going for the "gamers" shit; it's basically making it easier to meet and get to know new people via a shared activity for people who find that preferable to "dating".

I wouldn't be surprised if this good idea finds its audience. Maybe.... us? :o

joking aside, the main problem with fedi/mastodon/whatever (I'm definitely using the wrong terminology and I will not stop) vs other places is that it takes time to get any kind of enjoyable feed going.

This is how all sites used to be, including twitter, and it was fine. It was hard then too, but because it was so massive and it was quite easy to find people (and there was social pressure to), it was easier to ride out.
