@strypey @p @icedquinn @fish @phnt @silverpill @vii I have been invited by @p to examine this thread because i've not been on fedi for 11 months
Interesting.... i think if fedi has a future it is based around something like minimitra and the censorship resistance that i2p offers (although I'm now having to rethink how i2p is able to be distributed due to i2p.net being cloudGlare). i am pleased to see that a rust implementation of i2p has been developed but I need to learn more about it due to its use of m$-github I am not as excited as I probably should be.
Yes the "hey-hi" push is about surveillance and control, and what people in an indymedia roundtable recently noticed, making search engines a bit garbage, and being able to "meter out truth" even more slowly, even if today the LLMs are okay they will be made worse. I personally have never used an llm, believe it or not. One of the way to avoid search being taken over by LLMs is host a sites with ample Links to good sources. If enuf ppl shared links to (ideally hidden) services that they found useful, and enuf of those services had a good search function on their OWN sites, we can short-circut the search-to-LLM pipeline.
But if we allow them to get nuclear power for their datacenters the ability for them to construct false realities automatically and therefore imprison people within them will be off the charts, and can last for a fairly long time, long enuf to cause incredible harm to humanity in general. The reason it could last a lot longer than we might expect is the expansionist nature of the predators to use the land, or whatever resource, that they have expanded into. There is a cycle whereby spent/depleted uranium ends up in countries that they want to genocide and ethnically cleanse via warfare which means they extract more and more resources from lands that have been made inhabitable by them, and cycle continues.
The fact that iran were not allowed to have a civil nuclear energy program speaks to this fact, the genocidal class knows what they do with depleted uranium, which is why they want to deprive states they from having nuclear energy. But what's good for the goose is good for the gander, no one ought have that sort of assymetric power over others.
In febuary this year we saw a case study of this pollute-then-use method.... a month before (early feb) the genocidal regime (US/UK/Isra) started the war on iran (end of feb) they sprayed toxic herbicide over south lebanon to destroy the people's connection to the land. they ethnically "cleansed" it and now the land is being used by the "psychopath" (i prefer the term predator) class to further abuse others.
This is the sort of thing we see with depleted uranium, the predator class say they will handle it safely but i believe they NEVER do.... it really just ends up in the tips of munitions to genetically damage or ethnically cleanse (make refugees out of) peoples they dont like (iraq is apparently well known as an example where the population are genetically damaged from the dense uranium in weapons) but now we are seeing it acrss the middle east. From what i gather the extent of depopulation of regions in the middle east is INTENSE. All these refugees need places to go and so they go to other countries which enjoy GDP boosts because the demand for things like housing, etc, go up. It makes those economies look good on the surface, but its literally on the backs of genocide and expansionism. The corporate media therefore will never care about exposing this process.
The predator class can and are basically repeating this but for datacenters and polluting the world with streaming disservices and now to add to the damage, slop. Big tech predators don't even need to know what is real and not they can just destroy people's that stand in their way fairly automatically. Dissent becomes basically impossible and this allows them to get away with basically anything.
Ending uranium trade will be the most effective method to stop the degeneration, best way forward imv. Apparently the way this is done is by ensuring mined uranium diluted in a slurry and spread back over the land.
I also think the car is on the way out. Oil is on the decline. Part of the reason for the war on iran is so they can #blameIran for oil decline, not their overconsumption ideological control of citizens that they converted to consumers in the 1920s to maintain postwar production, that made them so much profits. EVs are intractable, and not really a viable option.
Invest in a boring old bicycle, and in getting a camel for dad.
I think one way we can build popular resistance is by jokingly covering up businesses' fb and instaspam icons with rss icons. Repurpose common plastic packaging that would otherwise go in the trash. RSS was identified early as the technogoly to destroy by the predator class, so I do think we need to work to restore RSS. Many fedi instances do RSS, and if they don't they should impement RSS imv. I think that is the wedge we can use, the fediverse icon deeloped by DSFSG (that i tried refining) hasnt taken off. So the only thing we have is the RSS icon, and NOSTALGIA. There is A LOT of nostalgia out there right now for the old web. Millenials will still recognize the RSS icon. When they see it it will evoke memory. If it is easy to remove, few will complain about someone sticking an RSS icon over their predator symbols. If you want to advertise a fediverse account write it out alongside an RSS icon. I would say that it our last chance to reclaim the web.
As the thread fragmnted I read less and less but this is my take, on the meat of it.
