@atomicpoet@fediversenews Why is it so hard to make good clients on iOS? Is it the libraries everybody use that make it hard for the devs to support other backends than Mastodon?
@pimeys I stopped using Husky due to someone saying that a maintainer may have had far right affiliations. I don’t know if this is true.
But Husky obviously has more compatibility for Pleroma specific features.
However, Husky isn’t even an option on iOS. The best client that I’ve seen so far for iOS is B4X, and it’s nowhere as good as the official Mastodon app.
@atomicpoet@fediversenews How does the official client compare to apps like Husky, which also works very nicely with Akkoma/Pleroma. Actually, I haven’t found any Android Fediverse/Mastodon clients that do not work with Akkoma…
@atomicpoet@fediversenews Hey, I'm the creator of Manyverse. It is absolutely still in active maintenance, it's frustrating that Rabble regularly says stuff about me or Manyverse that is plain wrong.
What's happening to Manyverse is that several "realities" (personal life, project technical challenges etc) require me to change "role", from UI developer slash project manager, to protocol designer, to rebuild a core part of SSB. That's it.
How do services like #lemmy and #discourse federate with #Mastodon? For example, my #instance has a 1000 character limit. Does that mean the #server rejects any federated posts that it receives over that limit? Would it be able to work with such services?
@buercher@user8e8f87c@fediversenews Needing a whole Mastodon (or similar) instance seems like overkill. It only needs bare minimum ActivityPub support for follow/unfollow. Wordpress and other similar things support that.
@jupiter_rowland Yes. Men in pinstripes suits are already working out how they can take over the Fediverse. I have no doubt. And they’ll be creative and sneaky about it, too. At the same time, search WILL happen somehow, because it’s good for the end users. So, I think the best defense is to manage HOW search happens, and to make *user-centric* standards for how external services can integrate with Fediverse apps
@Ben Pate ? This isn't about Google. This isn't about search-indexing.
Imagine Tootfinder being non-opt-in, non-opt-out like the earlier centralised searches. Imagine Tootfinder firmly embedding itself into every last Fediverse project from Mastodon to Streams to the point of everyone and everything relying on it.
Now imagine Google buying out Tootfinder in a hostile takeover.
This would mean that Google ASSUMES FULL CONTROL over the entire Fediverse.
This is what we want to keep from happening. This is why we don't want anything central in the Fediverse.
We do NOT want the Fediverse to be controlled by any one central instance. Especially not by Google. Or Apple. Or Facebook. Or Amazon. Or Microsoft. Or any other corporation. Or some greedy VC vultures.
Or imagine Google assuming full and direct control over all e-mail. Not only Google Mail, but also Outlook Mail, Yahoo! Mail etc., including privacy-oriented paid providers in Europe, including every last little private personal mail server run by geeks in their homes.
