So I looked into this. Allowing users to upload with #IPFS, a decentralized protocol replacement for #HTTP. Currently, I am benchmarking it by replacing my #Redis servers with it, just because I can for a few weeks.

#ActivityPub can be extended to allow for some extra allocated fields, and a fork of #Mastodon can be made.

Users will be able to upload their designs, and hosting would be decentealized and automatically spread around all users.

It is possible. I will look into a prototype, allowing users to use a bot or something like @3dprinting to share their prints before going for a fork of #Mastodon. Also need to investigate existing Activity Pub solutions and would possibly use something like #Go for the backend.

I'm still deciding on the front end.

Anyone having these arguments hasn't even watched a "Rust in 100 seconds" or #ELI5 post of #Rust. All these are advertised and well-known functionalities they are flat out denying with worse arguments than flat-earthers.

I've been using #Syncthing for the last year or 2 on my #Windows computer and #Android phone, but I recently moved to #Linux. So naturally, I need to redo everything.

Not that I am necessarily looking for something else, I live Syncthing, just because I am going through the effort. Does someone else recommend something similar?

I currently don't have the setup to create a #Nextcloud instance. Thus, Syncthing was a great solution. I just want to see what else #opensource has to offer.

The #US needs to be afraid of #DeSantis. Unlike #Trump, he is actually smart. He was a #JAG and has many other accomplishments and qualifications, which makes him a dangerous man with his beliefs.

If Trump could convince his followers to commit treason on Jan 6 and convince his country he had nothing to do with it, imagine what De Santis could do.

    People need to understand.

    #Google isn't a search engine.
#Facebook isn't a journal to share with your friend.
    #Instagram isn't a public photo album.
    #Twitter isn't a micro-blogging website.

Oh wow! Didn't expect to see #Simutrans here on #Mastodon. I discovered the game a few months ago after playing #OpenTTD for the last year. It is definitely a good game for anyone that enjoys #OpenTTD, but is looking for a more modern take and more in depth transportation-simulator.

It might not be possible, depending on how IDs a created for posts.

It might be better to simply allow apps to do it, but battery optimization will affect it.

But it is a functionality that I've also wanted for a while now. Because now you are just limited to single posts and the character limit. Which in turn can be a good thing, because #instances have character limits for reasons. Which #threads basically make obsolete but it still allows for more granular control.

But good luck getting #Mastodon to accept pull requests. If it were easy, all functionality of #Megalodon would be in the official app.

    @MetalSamurai @buercher @user8e8f87c @fediversenews yeah, just a bot on a service like #heroku. They even provide #database add-ons.

The only bad part now is their free-tier no longer exists, and something like that would use a lot of resources.

How do services like #lemmy and #discourse federate with #Mastodon? For example, my #instance has a 1000 character limit. Does that mean the #server rejects any federated posts that it receives over that limit? Would it be able to work with such services?

@crafti @jupiter_rowland @aswath @schizanon @steve @fediversenews and it is more an interface. It is used by other services to read another. But when something is posted, or as #activitypub calls it an activity, #rss doesn't have a communication protocol.

@benpate @fediversenews @steve Well, the #RSS and #ATOM guys hate #activitypub. There are a few long forum discussions where they go on about how unnecessary it is, and everything can be done with Atom. But I feel that ActivityPub isn't just the format but also how they communicate, and the format is more formalised and standardized, especially for social things.

Are there other protocols similar to #activitypub? After reading the ActivityPub paper, it is clear that although its main intention is to be for social media and communication, it can be implemented to be used for something like #peertube.

But is there a protocol for other types of websites?
