But it should be a setting somewhere or require some simple process. Not some hoop jumping magic, which would stop people that want to or normally would to opt-in. But I agree. Your data. Your choice.
What is the definition of the #fediverse? Is it services that use #activitypub or anything decentralized? When we motivate people to use the #fediverse or promote it. What are we expecting from them?
Following a single account is also much simpler. When you need to start editing bios and other stuff. The human error element comes in, and stuff goes wrong, leading to non-technical people getting frustrated and leaving the #fediverse.
Stop over, complicating the fediverse and #Mastodon.
Just another thing. I am a big #activist for #privacy. I only use #opensource and #privacy respecting #apps. I use a Swiss email and #vpn and random usernames on every single site I use.
But I know and understand that what I say here is public. Nothing can stop anyone from indexing this post. Whether it is by the #web#archive or an actual search engine.
If you don't want something you said to be public, use #signal and tell the person directly.
Because you use #hashtags so that people can find your posts. Otherwise, there is no reason to use them. People follow and search hashtags. Otherwise, your posts are just for your followers.
Personally, I don't want my #toots to show up on #google searches or other #search engines, but if I post something relevant and someone wants to search it, they should be able to find it.
I love #3dprinting, and the only way to find content related to it is searching for the #hashtag, but not everyone uses it?
So should we normalize and enforce the usage of hashtags, or should we allow full-text-search?
If you don't use hashtags, you aren't part of searching? Actually, it is a good way to opt-in on a per-toot basis for searching.
So, how do you think should people opt-in for searching? I might just write my own solution to this in the form of a #relay or a service to #apps, which would enhance their search functionality.
So I've seen some posts about people being against boost, but for a different reason than expected.
When you follow someone and they boost a post of someone you already follow, you see the pist twice in your timeline. If your circle is very interconnected, you can possibly see a post and then see it 10 more times as everyone you follow boosts the post.
Some apps provide the functionality to hide boosted posts, but I feel that when I folloe someone, I am interested in what they have to say, and when they boost a post, I want to see it.
So I feel clients should implement the functionality to hide posts boosted of people you already follow or if you have already seen a post.
If someone I follow posts something, the boosted version is connected to it. My comment will appear on both because they both reference the same original post.
In the suggestion tab, if you click to follow someone, the list becomes out of sync.
If you then click to follow someone, it follows the person below them. And the on every follow it becomes more out of sync, following a person one lower every time. You need to leave the suggestion page and return to fix it.
#Mastodon#clients and #apps should support nested comments and replies. The chart is nice and all, but then what? I need to close the image and go reply to something?
I want to know where I am in a conversation when I am using an #app.
A neighborhood is an area, and a #community is a group of people. My neighborhood has a zip code, but I don't speak to everyone in the neighborhood, but I speak to my local community on the block.
An instance that is very big is a neighborhood. Smaller communities will always exist within. I only follow a few 100 people on my 75000 user #instance.
#Pintrest is just one of those weird phenomenons. No one I know actually has an account, but when you need an idea for something, you go and check Pintrest. Whether it is ideas for a wedding dress, tree house, pottery, or cool desk setups. Whatever, Pintrest has it.
Pintrest also dominates #google searches when it comes to images, but I actually saw statistics the other day that Pintrest actually isn't one of the biggest click generators.
