@lightweight Just to help you make sense of this: no, NextCloud Talk and Matrix are not "at least as good" as Salesforce Slack, and Zulip UI is more or less frozen from the time it was created. They are, in fact, quite clunky. I haven't used the others.

Also, corporations don't want to self-host their chats, and some of these product don't really have a solid managed offering.

So, in summary, the first step is to avoid comparing things that cannot really be compared.

@thomasfuchs Money doesn't grow on trees and they've taken heat for receiving Google sponsorship. What are they supposed to do to sustain themselves? Donations aren't enough.

In July it was first reported that ChatGPT growth was declining.

I'm looking for scholarly research on archetypes/taxonomies/characterization of open source governance models.

There are several models out there: Benevolent Dictator for Life (BDL), Technical Steering Council/Committee (TSC), loosely defined meritocratic lazy consensus... And would love to read some deep analysis on those. Any pointers are appreciated.

I love these ideas of using AP for novel things but with the current state of the Fediverse (the Mastoverse? the Noteverse?) I don't see how they will ever take off if we always need to start with Mastodon compatibility.

@peertube Most of @Framasoft sites are half translated or not translated at all, at the bottom of the support page there's a subscribe form for a French-only newsletter, and so on. Sure translation services exist, but these hints send the message that Frama caters first and foremost to the French-speaking community. Which is completely fine, but might explain the donations origin.
