With the shit about to go down in the US, I want to make a pitch to my non-tech social groups to get off WhatsApp. What would you do? Is Signal the right recommendation, or is it potentially subvertable?
Seeing a lot of uncertainty and nervousness around "geopolitical risk" of US-based tech services; what do you lot think about this? Are you looking to move off US-based services? How paranoid is it reasonable to be?
Annoyingly, a very interesting potential contract has fallen through, so I'm on the lookout again for ways to pay the bills while continuing work on @manyfold.
Anyone need a part time data/software architect and Ruby/Rails dev obsessed with Open Source and Open Data?
#DuckDuckGo going down again (#HugOps to everyone there) has really reminded my how much my unconscious workflow depends on a search engine these days.
Had a dream in which all-out war was kicking off with an exchange of missiles. Could see them in the sky all over the place, but then they all stopped, dropped out of the sky, and some aliens told us all to stop being so bloody stupid.
Think I'm going to need some contract work from July for at least a few months while I apply for the next round of @manyfold funding. If you know anything in the world of open source dev, Ruby/Rails, system architecture, API design, etc, keep me in mind?
Seems the only way to get our government to actually do anything useful is to broadcast a dramatisation of it on ITV.
Seriously, the miscarriage of justice around the Horizon / postmaster scandal has been known for… years? And yet it’s top priority now just because it got a drama on TV?
OK then; if that’s how it works, let’s have some dramas for climate change, treatment of refugees, and corrupt fucking Tories chasing the latest headlines.
#3DPrinting folks: Anyone interested in the idea of a #Fediverse model hosting site (like Thingiverse, etc)? I'm wondering whether I should expand @vandam (my self-hosted 3d library manager app) in that direction, and I'd be very interested in your thoughts: https://github.com/Floppy/van_dam/issues/1389
Ignoring the awfulness of what was said, I'm utterly shocked to see Suella Braverman speaking at a "National Conservatism" conference.
EVERYONE involved must get the parallel in the naming, right? It can't possibly be accidental. Nobody remotely interested in politics or history can not get it and must understand what it's saying.
In what world is it acceptable for our Home Secretary to cuddle up to?
