ICYMI - we need to keep Mastodon secure, and to help everyone to enjoy the latest improvements. We support older releases for fixed periods (main release version “minus two”, for six months after release of latest; so 4.1.x ends 6 months after 4.3 is released). Per the support policy, End of Life for the 4.1.x series is approaching. We’ll also start to remove instances that run older versions from the list of servers on the website, as we retire older versions. Please upgrade! 🙏🏻 #MastoAdmin

I learned a lot about other projects at FOSDEM, and one of the things I (still) value in tech is that there is so much more variety than I'm aware of.

Open source and community project maintainers (and contributors) need to work hard on patience, empathy, and humility. It was something that took me a while, and even now after ~20+ years in the space, I can fail at those values at times. I know I've not always been the best at these things, and I still strive to learn.

Arrogance is neither sexy or cool. You need to meet people where they area, and show up, sometimes even in person. One of the reasons that I've valued meetups and events.

@evan @Gargron @julian @johnonolan I remember a lot of people taking photos of a group of us at the end of the devroom and I’ve only seen one or two of them posted… but no, you and I have no photographic proof of the teamwork - it was pretty busy. Good problem to have!

The Ghost approach to #ActivityPub looks great. They get it. Real engagement and ongoing conversations not just broadcasting. I had a similar experience when Mastodon replies started showing up as comments in WordPress, but Ghost is really building this into the core with the reader view as well. “You can’t be on the social web without being social.” #FOSDEM #SocialWebFOSDEM

This is great - @fedify has launched an @opencollective to help sustain the project. This is a great library and framework that is helping many other projects grow into the #fediverse. Shout-out to @hongminhee! (also to @liaizon for posting about it as well)

Tentatively planning / toying with the idea of a personal #podcast. I already do @gamesatwork_biz but I'm thinking of a space to talk more about things i'm observing in tech and society. Mind you, also aware that I sometimes struggle to maintain a blog. Yay / nay / wth are you thinking / do it this is overdue? Should I inflict this on the wilds of the web?

If you're looking to help out with Mastodon without knowing ActivityPub etc, I'd love some help with the renovate PRs on our main project website. The main issue in keeping up is that a couple of React components like FormattedMessage clash with the updates, I think, and I'm not an expert there... -> https://github.com/mastodon/joinmastodon/issues/405
