@william_1844 I LOVE Friendica and find it brilliant (esp. the RSS integrations). Interoperability on the Fediverse is THE BEST

@missingbrighton Syd, you have to try Sharkey (I picked the calckey.world instance and love it). Sharkey is a fork of MissKey, it has the most gorgeous UX/UI in the whole Fediverse, long posts with markup and so many other cool features.

And may I suggest Phanpy as a way to browse Mastodon? Its catch-up feature is brilliant… you could use it in Safari, its mobile responsiveness is really good

@ilja thank you! Sort of unrelated but I’m currently obsessed with Sharkey and I’d love to do a deep dive for my blog (but got sidelined this month by uhm current events).

As for mentions of FLOSS / wanting to learn Linux, I’m humbled by how nice and generous everyone is on here. I feel like if I ever run into problems / questions, people of the Fediverse could immediately help 😅

Can we please retire the myth that there is “no engagement” in the Fediverse?

Exhibit A: this badge from #Ivory showing the activity in my account over the past 22 hours — 344 notifications (likes, boosts, follows, replies).

I was on Twitter 1.0 for 14 years, had 4x as many followers on my personal account and never ever had these many interactions. Why?

The damn Big Tech algorithms penalizing my posts whenever I shared links.

I realize I haven't published any new #blog posts for #TheFutureIsFederated in 3 weeks (gasp).

I've been doing a lot of thinking, reading, learning #Linux on my #RaspberryPi5... and I'm now preparing a brand new blog post about the #Fediverse. I think it will be the most important thing I have ever written on the subject. I care about this A LOT and I hope it will be good and helpful.

@mekkaokereke I wonder if you’ve ever tried Sharkey (a fork of MissKey)? It has a gorgeous UX/UI that makes it a lot of fun to use. And it has markup and lots of advanced functionalities. Had I stumbled upon it first, I would have set up my Fediverse home there.

I had been meaning to do a Sharkey show & tell for my blog The Future is Federated, but I’ve been delayed by the mess of USpol… I’ll ping you once I do (prob next month)

In order to fight the kakistocracy that will step into power soon in the US, we need to change behaviors.

Unpopular opinion but masses flocking to Bluesky and repeating the same online behaviors of Twitter 1.0 won't change a thing.

We need ethical social media now more than ever - WITHOUT algorithms. We must retrain our brains to parse information in a different way.

I believe the #Fediverse with its lack of algorithmic shenanigans and engagement bait is the enlightened choice

I had to commemorate the start of this new era with a selfie (my sweatshirt was totally on point - happy coincidence). I’m sooo excited! I had always been intimidated by Linux (as a non-technical person) but the #Fediverse changed all that.

Another moment of gratitude for the #Fediverse: content warnings were made for this time.

Every time I’ve browsed Bluesky since 11/6, I’ve seen many photos of the 2 horrid malignant narcissists who will ascend to greater power soon (T & M). I invariably feel shivers going down my spine & close the app immediately. I may delete my account soon.

Thank you people of the Fediverse for hiding posts about them behind CWs or using their full names so filters can do their job

@tante this is a golden opportunity for the #Fediverse & #Matrix to emerge as the communications hubs for government, academia, non-profits, transportation and alert system… if only admins inside these orgs started a big wave of adoption. Fediverse for social, Matrix for private messaging.

At the Matrix conference, people from the French gov talked about how they had ALL French civil servants (some 500,000 people) move their internal comms to #tchap, built on the Matrix protocol. It is doable!

Following what feels like the longest 2 days of my life I want to express my gratitude for the #Fediverse and the connections I have made on here. You people GET IT - and rejected corporate social media a long time ago.

When 99% of my friends are on the bad apps & even send me links to Instagram videos about "resistance"... I just don't know what to say or do - I wanna scream. I wish they'd see the light and come here.

Did the billionaires know in advance? How else would you explain their sycophantic behavior in the weeks *before* November 5th? M*sk, Zuckerberg, Bezos. Did they know he was going to win? This thought creeps me out and makes me even more motivated to resist the kleptocratic technopoly they have been facilitating.

Today I deactivated my Threads account. I was only on it to promote the Fediverse, but now I want NOTHING to do with a Zuck-owned platform

Day 2 of my resistance against tech overlords.

Yesterday I set up my #RaspberryPi and started tinkering with it.

Today I’m at the library getting books on #Linux, Raspberry Pi, tech history and theory.
