If I were to donate to every software I use, I'd go bankrupt (that's why I'm self-hosting now... and donating to other things like Mastodon that I actively use)

Yesterday Substack reached unicorn status (1 billion dollar valuation). Yes, Substack, the publishing equivalent of a Nazi bar.

2 months ago I collected evidence of what the lack of moderation does: putting unchecked racism, antisemitism & fatphobia out in the open.

I collected evidence but I'm not the right person to air this. Do you have recommendations re: bloggers / journalists who might be interested?

I'm not surprised because of two decades of daily behavior modification by Big Tech platforms... closed silos that implicitly rewarded staying inside their walled gardens and routinely downranked posts with links.

Sure, Threads is new and allegedly federating but old habits die hard.

⚠️ Important PSA about #Pocket ‼️

If you used Pocket to save interesting articles you found online, you may be aware that #Mozilla decided to shut down the app and discontinue support.

I vaguely remembered that date was July and had a mini-heart attack when I saw it was actually July 8.

Good news though: if you, like me, have hundreds of articles saved to Pocket, you have until October 8 to request an export of your data (I just did): https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/future-of-pocket

@pfefferle @obenland I have a question about uploading blocklists to a federated Wordpress site.

I noticed this in Settings > Discussion

"When a comment contains any of these words in its content, author name, URL, email, IP address, or browser’s user agent string, it will be put in the Trash. One word or IP address per line. It will match inside words, so “press” will match 'WordPress'."

I was trying to upload Seirdy's blocklist but several extensions contain .social or .org so I held off

I wouldn't just put .social there but:

actualknowntoxicinstance.social

If I do that, other instances that have .social aren't blocked then? I thought that one word would suffice.

For transparency: I used to pay 31€/month for a creator plan and now I'm self-hosting my Ghost blog on a VPS that costs 5€/month. I pay an additional 15€/month for newsletter sending (but that's optional)

Starter plans on Ghost cost as little as 9 dollars/month (as far as I remember) and offer incredible value for the money

@strypey I’m a normie that self-hosts GoToSocial, Friendica, Pixelfed, PeerTube and NextCloud thanks to @yunohost 🙋🏻♀️
