Regarding my W Social exposé: it was months in the making and I could have written a LOT more, showing additional examples of technical blunders, but I kept it "brief" at 3500 words 😅

I just refreshed the #WSocial website and it's showing a MAJOR redesign... with a label at the top stating "built on the open AT-protocol."

This is the first time ever they acknowledge this – I know, as I've been visiting their website for MONTHS and also never heard about this in any interviews. So the claims in my exposé stand (the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine would confirm this).

Of note: they changed their URL from wsocial.eu to wsocial.news

Do you remember the surprise announcement of a new social network in Davos this past January? Something that promised to be the "first" European social network?

Its name is #WSocial and it's a fork of #Bluesky. Its founders have ties with European politicians - but there is no official involvement by the EU.

You wouldn't know any of this from media reports because they all rehashed their talking points. So I wrote a post about it, dispelling some myths:

A HUGE thank you to @bjoernsta and @kingconsult for inviting me to speak at #2MR today - and for the honor of giving the opening keynote.

It feels like a blur but my favorite moment was mentioning @rstockm’s +1 principle… spotting him in the audience… and fangirling « you’re here! I quote you all the time » (we had never met previously).

I’m also super grateful for the opportunity to connect IRL with my Fedi friends. It’s amazing to be a part of this Rebel Alliance, fighting the good fight 💖

Final prep for my #2MR speech.

If my promo video was a 4 min love letter to the Fediverse, well this 15 minute presentation is the extended cut, wishing to spread hope and joy about the future of this incredible online space.

I’m feeling a tad emotional this morning because when I turned on my phone at 6:30am I had LOTS of messages of encouragement from Fedi friends - who texted me on Signal and Matrix. They even wrote to me before my family 🥹 Thank you! 💖

6:40am local time and I’m on the train to the airport - destination: Hamburg for the #2MR conference where I’ll be speaking tomorrow morning. Topic: my dreams for the Fediverse ❤️

I had 2 Substack newsletters years ago and I simply exported my subscriber list and moved to Ghost. It took a few minutes. Easy peasy. That's why I say there are ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSES.

No problem for #Substack though! They happily take a 10% cut from all paid subscriptions.

There are many great alternatives to SS: Ghost, Buttondown, beehiiv, Patreon... no more excuses

I had been looking for a 4-leaf clover my whole life... and finally found my first last month.

Then I found my second yesterday.

My 5-year-old remarked: "I will find a 5-leaf and a 6-leaf clover." I replied to her: "I don't think they exist, I never heard of them."

Today, in my late grandparents' garden I found a 5-leaf clover. I am simply speechless...

Yesterday I had the incredible opportunity of giving a presentation for the service numérique of the French Ministry of Culture, as part of their experiment with the Mastodon instance @cercle

It was super inspiring to listen to all the talks of the participants, from the @palaisdetokyo to @LeMuseum. And the results of the poll by @imacrea were fascinating! I will write more soon. For now: THANK YOU for having me there ❤️

Today is the day of my big presentation advocating for the Fediverse in a very special place. I’ll be keeping this in my pocket - a heart hand sewn by my 5-year-old - as my good luck charm.

I love this online space so much and I hope I will represent it well 💖

@reiver if I may be blunt, I think many creative people (and journalists and politicians) are too attached to vanity metrics even if their engagement on Big Tech platforms is very low. They may be afraid to start over on yet another new network where they'd have 0 followers.

This year I'm all in trying to help cultural institutions get on the Fediverse... I think once some big players are here (museums, galleries, media organizations) others will follow

@stefan the only Forkiverse founder who is still active is @Casey (thanks for continuing to post on the Forkiverse!)

I just had a video call with a Forkiverse member earlier today and he is doing GREAT STUFF for the Fediverse as a whole, so there's at least one awesome success story. I'm sure there are more.

Hoping that the Forkiverse experiment continues... it's bringing a refreshing diversity of views here

@lumiworx I sometimes feel like I'm not a good "team player" when I point out weaknesses in the ATproto world. Big elephant in the room: the 100 million dollars in VC money by crypto bros. A lot of people I cherish are all for promoting both protocols (ATproto and ActivityPub), but I remain highly skeptical. And afraid. ATproto gives me big EEE vibes
