I just came across an article that says #Bluesky now supports uploading videos up to 3 minutes long.

Sorry for the extremely newbie question but I wonder what the impact would be on the hypotethical of a self-hosted relay?

In a phenomenal article from last year @cwebber wrote that running a relay in November 2024 required 5 TERABYTES of storage (https://dustycloud.org/blog/how-decentralized-is-bluesky)... up from 1 TB in July 2024.

Does video make Bluesky decentralization / self-hosting a relay even more unattainable? 🤔

But instead of doing a SUPER long post about it, maybe I could do a 2 part series:

1) How to sign up, onboarding process, first impressions

2) A follow-up post / overview after 2+ weeks of use

I've been thinking of doing things differently for newcomers on the Fediverse, addressing things from their POV.

As for the photos: I’ve been meaning to publish them on my site… but my child has been off from school with the stomach flu for the past few days, so I didn’t have time to. I’ll do it ASAP

#EleFediVideos update 🎬

Yesterday I had a eureka moment and realized that, for my Fediverse video to be impactful, it needs to have a real person on screen carrying the message. Who? Me - I guess 😱

I've been making videos for AGES and I always happily avoided appearing on screen. I LOVE my privacy. I shudder at the thought of having to sit down, look at my face on screen & hear my recorded voice over and over.

But #Fediverse I love you and I'm willing to take one for the team.

Let's go 🙈

Before we left for preschool this morning, my 4-year-old stopped in front of the table where I left my #FOSDEM stickers. She perused them, picked one up and said "I'm giving this to M" (her best friend).

What did she pick?

"Make art, not billionaires".

You should have seen my smile.

Today is the day I find out if film editing and VFX skills stay embedded in your memory… or if they need to be reacquired.

In an ideal world I would start project codename #MyFediValentine (aka my video promoting the Fediverse) today and have it ready by Feb 14… but I haven’t done any editing/VFX since Jan 2022 🥲

Realistically I may need a month.

The most important thing is: I have the best intentions - to promote the Fediverse and crucify the malevolent empires of Big Tech.

It was incredibly inspiring and energizing to hang out and exchange ideas with so many Fediverse champions.
