@_elena Mm I never experienced old Twitter so I don't really know what that vibe was or what the Bluesky vibe is now :P

I want to follow some people and if they are really keen on not entering the open social web this is a way to still see their posts. I guess it's only people who I already know, or who pop up here by others sharing their stuff.

It's only 14 people at the moment though.

The fediverse to me is both curated information streams (broadcasts) and genuine connections, I guess.

@_elena Maybe because interesting people think they have to stay interesting and that they can only achieve that by reaching more people with their own thoughts, instead of engaging in conversation with people and learning about other perspectives?

And they see that on Bluesky they get more likes, shares, impressions, compared to Mastodon, and move there?

Just speculating here, I don't actually know their reasoning.

At this moment I bridge my Mastodon content to Bluesky by following @bsky.brid.gy , but I agree with @pluralistic here:

"If I had my way, all those people enjoying themselves on Bluesky would come and enjoy themselves in the Fediverse. But I'm not a purist. If there's a way to use Bluesky without locking myself to the platform, I will join the party there in a hot second. And if there's a way to join the Bluesky party from the Fediverse, then goddamn I will party my ass off."

The housing corporation on the campus of @utwente is planning to replace all locks of ~2500 students living there with digital locks, that you can only unlock with your phone (via NFC).

Some students are very concerned about these plans, so I just went to the UT to talk with @Brian , one of the concerned students.

I'm very curious for replies with privacy / ethics arguments around these digital locks.

@bjacobs , @marleenstikker , @xot, @Frederik_Borgesius , do you have any thoughts on this?

They are traveling the world for 7 years, painting murals across the globe to spread art, love and joy. As I could offer them a bed, we talked about life, adventures, Canada, ¡Pura Vida! and purple ;-)
