@erikkemp when I lived there, some of the faculty buildings already had locks that worked with a chip embedded in the key. At least the Zilverling had such locks. They could read out for an individual lock which keys were used with it.

Erik Kemp 🇪🇺 (erikkemp@tukkers.online)'s status on Friday, 10-Jan-2025 01:16:50 JST Erik Kemp 🇪🇺 The housing corporation on the campus of @utwente is planning to replace all locks of ~2500 students living there with digital locks, that you can only unlock with your phone (via NFC).
Some students are very concerned about these plans, so I just went to the UT to talk with @Brian , one of the concerned students.
I'm very curious for replies with privacy / ethics arguments around these digital locks.
@bjacobs , @marleenstikker , @xot, @Frederik_Borgesius , do you have any thoughts on this?
