What you see pictured is an Israeli settler armed with an automatic rifle mocking an unarmed Palestinian woman, as he settles her land and eradicates her family’s olive trees.

This picture is so powerful that the Israeli ambassador immediately accused L’Espresso for publishing an AI fake.

When it turned out that it was authentic, he switched his line of attack to the much more predictable (and easy to neutralize) “it’s antisemitic”.

Pictures like these are worth a thousand words.

They are the embodiment of the banality of evil that permeates every single cell of the illegal Zionist entity.

We should all stop calling it “war”. The word “war” involves a clash between armies. The one between Ukraine and Russia is a war.

This is not a war.

This is just barbaric eviction and genocide against unarmed civilians.

Reasons: An obvious automated scam account created today with the sole purpose of sending “Account Verification Required” links to 600 accounts so far.

Needless to say, the link points to malware (and the domain luckily has now been taken down).

I normally consider those behind these types of accounts to be the worst human beings to ever be born on this planet.

But when they target vulnerable people in Gaza I also wish them the worst torments of hell.

@Aseelsehwel is part of our big #GazaVerified family, and she has been documenting for months through her beautiful words the events occurring in #Gaza. Her blog @aseelsehwel has touched many hearts and provided a uniquely human perspective on this war as it unfolded.

Following the success of the collective fundraiser model for other verified accounts from Gaza, we would like to experiment this model also with Aseel.

⚡ How it works

Collective fundraisers are a more sustainable and dignified way of supporting our Palestinian friends.

Rather than competing for donations on a daily or weekly basis, we are trying to form more stable support networks that can guarantee our friends a more stable income (call it UBI if you wish) as they try to rebuild their lives shattered by the Zionist genocide.

Volunteers can commit to support one or more families by transferring fixed funds on a monthly basis. Anyone who wants to join can either:

@rspfau I use a tiling window manager under normal usage patterns for a modern desktop and I never see memory usage skyrocket to 6 GB for a couple of tabs and web apps - unless I open stuff like IntelliJ or OpenShot of course.

And XFCE (and Xubuntu itself) also don’t eat up so many requirements. Same for vanilla GNOME.

I think that the problem is mainly with all the bloat that has been slowly added to Unity, which has made vanilla Ubuntu more resource-hungry, and Canonical is now trying to put the blame only on modern usage patterns.

@kathsone @nada @aral keep in mind that you’re talking to a woman going through genocide and trying to get back on her feet. A bit of sensitivity wouldn’t hurt.

You’re right when you say that those who spam can feel overwhelming. And there are many who still send many direct mentions even though they are already raising a lot.

We always work hard to identify such cases of abuses, have clear rules around mentions, and we do not condone those who overwhelm donors or leverage emotional blackmail in order to maximize their “conversion rate”.

I would invite you to read Nada’s message again: it’s exactly a criticism against those who mention repeatedly while raising a lot of money, and she says that many never ask for donations because they find it shameful, and they end up having nothing.

And I would invite you to check her profile for unsolicited mentions for donations - I don’t think you’ll find any. And, just like her, not all the families in this initiative spend their day sending mentions on social media. Let’s try not to generalize.

Also, bear in mind that those who overwhelm you can always be muted. It’s a sufficient punishment for someone who is going through a hard time but abuses people’s generosity. I don’t feel like I would have the guts of reporting someone and cutting them from their only lifeline just because they annoyed me with a request for donations.

• Conflating criticism of Israel with #antisemitism

• Account specifically created a few days ago with the purpose of targeting/rage-bating me and @aral (like the other copycat accounts)

• Exact same patterns as the other accounts (anonymous accounts, no interactions with the people in the thread, only sharing memes published by the same propaganda page, no activities on their profiles other than semi-automated replies against a few specific targets, preference for German instances)

• The other copycat accounts have also been suspended by most of the instances on the Fediverse, but new accounts that exhibit the same behaviour keep popping up every couple of days

• This post that targets us for anti-Zionism has been published under a Fediblock call by Aral against a literal antisemitic profile. Yet these profiles don’t seem to show much interest towards truly racist and antisemitic content. They only harass those who support #Gaza.

I’m appalled by how some ultra-Zionist accounts are obsessed by our activities while they completely ignore these TRUE examples of antisemitism.

If the condition for the existence of #Israel as a political entity is a permanent state of instability and aggression towards its neighbours (not since the latest attacks against Lebanon, not since the attack against Iran, not since October 5th, but for a whole century), then probably the existence of Israel as a political entity in the Middle East is the problem.

@gimulnautti @aral @casey @joynewacc @aseelfromgz @rania40 this is the first time I hear about the credit card of a donor being blocked.

We’ve had campaigns temporarily suspended for verification, bank accounts of campaign managers suspended for transferring funds directly to Palestinian bank accounts, but never the credit card of someone who donates to a legit campaign on GFM or Chuffed. Whether those campaigns appear “AI generated” or not should be up to the fundraising platforms to decide, not a bank.

Please do appeal the decision, and if you need any evidence that some specific accounts are legit feel free to poke me and Aral.
