In an internal Slack message obtained by The Verge, 1Password’s Karimov downplayed the overtly racist comments from DHH, telling staff the following: As I said, people have different personal opinions. You believe in your heart that DHH is evil, that you have the moral high ground, and that nothing will change your mind. However, not everyone believes that. It is not fair to claim a monopoly and ostracize team members who might disagree with you. There are people who are afraid to speak up simply because they will be personally attacked.

  Earlier this week I unsubscribed from #1Password and moved to #Bitwarden... due to their donation of 300k to DHH's #Omarchy.
  I made sure to let them know about the reason, so that hopefully the company would notice those kind of decisions have an impact.
  Day one I got messages from their AI system.
  But today I got a response by a real human at 1Password (or so it appears).

  1. a screenshot of an email I received from 1Password following the cancellation of my premium plan (due to their donation to Omarchy). It reads: "Hello Elena, Thank you for reaching out and sharing your questions and concerns about our decision to become a corporate patron of the Omacom Foundation. We value the relationship we have with you, and we want to respond thoughtfully and openly about the purpose of this commitment and how we're approaching it at 1Password. At 1Password, we support developer and open-source communities because they're an important part of the ecosystem our customers rely on. We have a long history of supporting open source projects, including the Linux, Rails, and Rust Foundations. We chose to support Omarchy because it is a growing Linux environment that developers use and value, and because 1Password already had a meaningful presence in that community. Contributing to the Omacom Foundation is intended to support hosting infrastructure and provides stable, long-term funding for the upstream open-source projects and maintainers on which Omarchy depends. We recognize that Omarchy is closely associated with its founder, and that raises questions about what our support means.   @_elena Entirely bullshit attempt at damage control. Omarchy is one nazi's personal dotfiles. That's all. There is no ecosystem it's part of that 1Password customers rely on. Is is not funding upstreams it depends on except for maybe a few nazi projects like Hyprland, where it's serving the purpose of the foundation: funneling corporate money to nazis. No respectable project would even take Omarchy money.

  @_elena That sounds like a pile of bullshit to me. If they had done 5 minutes of Googling, they would have known exactly how their support of Omacom would be perceived by large parts of the developer and open-source communities.
  People don't usually tend to throw heaps of money at random foundations with no research about who they are and what they're in the news for. At this point, one has to assume that anyone who chooses to support Omarchy does it because of DHH's views, not despite them.
