The first beta release of Mastodon 4.4.0 is ready for testing!
Many user-facing improvements: featured content, updates for lists, follower management, new emoji, and refreshed audio and media players.
For server owners: new legal features, moderation tweaks, announcements updates, upgraded software stack, and some experimental feature options.

We expect to release a second beta next week, and then a Release Candidate. We expect 4.4.0 to be released by the first week of July, possibly sooner. 🚀

@MastodonEngineering I don't know. I once tested a website and my feedback was that all the pictures of women were loading slower. Got 0 for that. I wonder if they did something about it. Cause if they did, maybe I should sue them.

And I just don't understand what developers want. I make an account, I get a feed, I start interacting. What's the problem?

People should be a lot more direct regarding their expectations and the rules. If you don't want something happening, say it up front. Don't do that Facebook thing where you get warnings from accounts that are fake. OK? You don't want someone here, say it, don't be a coward.

Yeah there have been specific apps that have implemented #QuotePosts for some time now -- and used that as a "marketing" feature
But of course there's a difference between the user-space "app" level and the overall-global instance distribution level
This will become Yet Another(tm) #Mastodon Advanced Feature(tm) that newcomers and the experienced alike will have to find in some Preferences --> Whatever location and turn on or off as they see fit

And what are "Carousel Slides" and when do we get to see them?
Are these for Pinned Posts, or nah?

@FinchHaven @jerome @individual8 @MastodonEngineering we worked hard and put the specification through the Fediverse Enhancement Proposals process -we hope that people use the feature! Carousel slides are the way pinned posts will show up in user profiles on the web in 4.4.x

See that quote (heh...) I pulled down from the Release notes:
""Quoting other people is not implemented yet, and it is currently not possible to mark your own posts as allowing quotes. However, a new “Who can quote” setting has been added to the “Posting defaults” section of the user settings. This setting allows you to set a default that will be used for new posts made on Mastodon 4.5 and newer, when quote posts will be fully implemented.""

@mike 4.4.0 has the first part of that (display), 4.5 will have the remaining part of the implementation. Stand by!
