Quietly, Mastodon has become a blogging platform!

An example. A post on WordPress.

    https://daveverse.org/2025/07/09/example-of-a-wordpress-post-in-mastodon/

And here it is on Mastodon.

    https://mastodon.social/@scripting@daveverse.org/114823624237979477

    Is that a miracle?

of course that's exactly what i'm doing, i'm just trying to help lay the ground so that we can peer with AP services right from the start using RSS, because that's *all* we're going to support in my platform and it's not even going to be all of RSS either. we've waited too long for the mess over in twitterland to get sorted out. i'm trying to build something bigger.

i've been pretty open about what i'm doing, not my fault people don't listen.

what are the basic functions that need to be supported? I can post a response to your message, and someone else can respond to mine? building a tree out of RSS feed items (same thing as blog posts).

it seems to me given the service you have running that you've solved all the problems. when i get through to AP by publishing via WordPress, I'm getting the simplicity i want at a protocol level (RSS).

Simplicity, lots of devs know how to use RSS, only a very few understand AP. It’s a way of encapsulating the confusion behind a really simple api.

    @pfefferle @timbray

here's the basic idea -- if they all supported RSS in the same way then we'd have an open social web.

there are lots of projects that didn't go anywhere, i have a few myself.,

what i want to see is what your project does for wordpress done for an open format, either rss or something much like it. simple.

so we could treat all these platforms as one platform on the web.

otherwise their claim of being on the "open social web" is just hype.

we've got some great prior art. wordpress is building a bridge to activitypub. so we can just do what they do. really smart guys, and true believers in open the open web.

i can show you how it works.

    no gutenberg presence in wordland.

and with the guidance from @pfefferle and @jeremy the documents you write with wordland work great with a back-end that's based on gutenberg.

again wordpress is an operating system, like windows or macintosh, ms-dos -- lots of ways to write, and we get interop on a writing level using the apis, which of course can be cloned.

I've heard that Andor is great stuff.

I'm on episode 6 of season 1, and it's the usual Star Wars bullshit. It was fun in 1978. But now? It's so freaking boring.

Tell me it's worth continuing to watch, that it gets an actual plot at some point.

good review, i loved it, and also found the fact that i knew it was all done in a single shot was distracting. i'd rather have not looked for it. that said it was a huge achievement, beautiful piece of work.

There’s no reason RSS and social media have to be separate worlds. RSS is the easiest and fastest way to connect systems. When I see people endorse RSS over social sites I think we took a wrong turn somewhere because all these systems should be connected on the open web.

Think about this -- a fediverse just for blogs. It wouldn't try to deal with the limits of social media, go right to the answer.

but it's a different kind of ransomware.

those computers control all the money in the world.

by owning those systems, they have all the money. they don't actually need to blackmail anyone. it's a perfect crime that way.
