but it's a different kind of ransomware.
those computers control all the money in the world.
by owning those systems, they have all the money. they don't actually need to blackmail anyone. it's a perfect crime that way.

i heard it described as being the same kind of reaction the usenet people had when AOL users arrived on the internet.
i just get tired of hearing that, esp when there's a big dose of rudeness thrown in (you're being perfectly polite).
Why are all the people who hate AI so pissy about it.
Has anyone come up with a variant of JSON that allows comments? I've started using names like "comment1" etc to shoehorn comments in. A complete hack, impossible to maintain over time. The idea of not being able to put notes in your config.json files is absolutely ridiculous.
a little fix that would make social web a lot more useful and less hate-filled and abusive...
make replies visible only to the person being replied to.
if they feel the reply should be public, they can RT it.
i promise you i do not write for money and never have, even though as a result of my writing people have learned about what i do and in the process i made some money from it.
not here to argue. just that there probably are plenty of people who write and do not do it for money, all i was saying i am one of them.
I’m a blockhead, having only, briefly, been paid a pittance for writing, yet doing it every day for over 30 years.
WordPress could be the foundation for the revival of the read-write web.
If you think woke is the problem, try reading the US Constitution and amendments. Really read them. Pretend you didn't know it was the Constitution. One woke idea after another. Basically if you don't believe in woke, you're in the wrong freaking country.
This is the view of my Mastodon account from Threads. I have now followed this on Threads.

The net result is now I should see posts from each of these accounts from the other.
Only a manic wiring maniac could find this interesting. 😄
One way to help RSS-based podcasts is to promote individual episodes from the past. Sometimes shows are done, but the archive contains good stuff. Not everything is based on current events. Music, art, history for example.
Another consideration, Bluesky can be bought. The hotter they get, the more likeky they get an Elonesque owner.
two big advantages of fediverse.
1. it can't be bought by Elon Musk or someone like Elon Musk, can't suffer the fate of twitter.
2. doesn't have the limits of other platforms. this is something we're building on in conjunction with @pfefferle and his colleagues at Automattic.
The second one is enabling textcasting -- which will make mastodon specifically more useful to writers. The other platforms, not so much.
I predict that people will come to appreciate features that Mastodon has that the other twitter-like social web apps don't.
Voting is not you expressing yourself, it's not free speech, it's you and I governing. This is our moment of greatest power.
Friends, I never forgot this New Yorker cover. Now seems like a good time to review it.
@Gargron — your point of view is very important here.
@pfefferle -- time flies when you're having fun! 😉
@pfefferle -- yes it's wonderful. let's make it really sing with mastodon. i'll be working on demos.
OG blogger, podcaster, developed first apps in many categories. Old enough to know better. It's even worse than it appears.
