i'm coming at it from outside wordpress, so you will be able to hook up to anything via the api.

he's doing it inside wordpress, which is completely legit and right.

the reason -- there is no diff betw a comment and a post. so you really can build networks that way.

of course. reading rss feeds to flow into blogs goes back to the beginning.

i guess what makes this one so neat is that it's built out of two parts with very little more than connecting glue.

it's as if there's a new OS coming into existence. all it needs is a scripting language, something i think about a lot.

i think evan knows that i have some scripting code around, some even deployed. ;-)

just realized i should show you this.

it's kind of the reverse of what the A8C software does, it inhales RSS and exhales it to WordPress.

it's how I connected scripting.com to daveverse.org.

still a few gaps to fill in, that work is being done as part of the Baseline project. see why i had so much trouble explaining it when we started??

there's a lot of stuff working here, there's very little code in this package. ;-)

On the web I don’t have to reimplement the web to add a feature to the web.

be careful about these decisions because they will be hard to undo and may determine the character of the product.

i chose "wait for the reader," which makes me very much want to know what the reader will look like and how can we bridge it into the rss world which is where my new reader is running. ;-)

also feedland runs in that world too of course. you could be the hub for activitypub, not just a client.

Wouldn't it be great if there were a list of WordPress users who have turned on their ActivityPub plugin, so we know who to subscribe to on our favorite ActivityPub service.

A podcast I did recently about the work I'm doing to create a social network for writers that's built out of the web, all parts replaceable. WordPress had some surprising well-hidden power. I hope people listen, esp people in the WordPress community.
