Now that I've finished (and relished) The Hobbit for the first time, the main course is beckoning: The Lord of the Rings! Last night I noticed I was on page 89 when I finally reached Chapter 1. Given that I have 3000+ pages to go, that felt appropriate! ๐
@codemonkeymike@hund Some clarification: it's a self-hosted service. Essentially I've built my OWN Spotify from my decades of collecting music. I love the shit out of it.
But you either need to host your own, or have a friend share their library with you in order to listen.
@CoastalCoasting Indeed it was! That much I knew because I had dug back into some of his old Rolling Stone pieces after seeing (and falling in love with) 'Singles.'
Yep, he wrote that too. Same with Jerry McGuire :)
You won't be disappointed! In fact I highly recommend a fresh viewing of Almost Famous -- you'll appreciate the book so much more.
Confession: I never knew 'Fast Times At Ridgemont High' was a book! Nor did I know that Cameron Crowe spent a year undercover at a high school to write it.
I'll be bummed when I finish THIS book, Crowe's exceptional autobiography. If you loved 'Almost Famous,' this is essential reading. If you lived through the emergence of rock in the 70s, this is essential reading. If you just want to read some mind blowing inside scoops about the music industry, this is essential reading.
I have had nearly 50 years of cultural programming telling me that a career defines my purpose. While I don't necessarily believe that, it's difficult to outrun that programming sometimes.
And since I don't really have a career anymore, days at home are absolutely crushing me. If I'm not in nature, I just feel like I'm drifting.
I'm counting the days until I hit the road as a nomad, but I still fear the downtime. Any semblance of boredom stirs up the melancholy.
