@elaterite yup, I’m familiar with sneaker waves. But Mother Nature humbled me again.

I am safe, just wanted to confirm that. Tent got hit a couple times by the waves, but it’s dry inside so everything is good there.

Tide is receding. Jesus, I have never seen a tide crawl so far up the beach before.

@sharan I am safe. The tide started receding now. I don’t think that could’ve been any closer.

@thanius yea… I think I could’ve climbed high enough to be safe, but definitely would’ve lost all my gear

I did my research and I studied the tide charts and everything. But mother nature isn’t always predictable.

So tonight’s been a little scary.

This happened just before high tide at 1:38 AM. Leading up to this photo, I was furiously throwing everything in my pack just in case and prepared to scramble up the bluff.

It was really really close.

I even asked a few locals on the way here if the tide ever reached the beach wall and they all said no.

Welp.

Nope. NOW it’s perfect.

@codemonkeymike Hey Mike! What a kind and awesome offer! I’m actually through hiking the Oregon coast Trail, so I started near Astoria and now I’m working my way south towards the California border. So I won’t be able to head your way at least not this time.

@thomasb you must! I’m having the time of my life out here. Once I get back and have free time and a lot more data I will invite people to ask me questions and hopefully I can steer you into your own fun adventure.

Today on the Oregon coast Trail: Indian Beach to just north of Hug Point.

If there is anything better than hiking through the forest with the Pacific Ocean as the backdrop, I haven’t seen it. And this weather, my God it’s perfect.
