    @sun he's mildly abrasive and I already know more than him on a lot of videos youtube recommends me of him, but otherwise he shows cool stuff that prompts me to learn more about it from other sources so I don't have that much of a problem with him getting some stuff wrong from time to time

    Eh Linus' messaging on the topic was very unsympathetic, downright bizarre that he threw in "what, did you think I'd support Russian aggression?" when justifying ejecting maintainers, or at least justifying the lack of public justification for it. If he wants to dish it he'll just have to take it. I don't even care if it was a response to other accusations, it read to me like an attempt to muddy the waters and even smear the purge victims. All he had to do was say it's being done because of sanctions and details are still being worked out, but he just had to pretend morals played into the decision.

    I don't doubt there could be pressure behind closed doors but it's a bad look that something so old is being treated as so urgent that they're *still* hashing out the details with their legal team after firing the gun out of nowhere.

    @sun It feels like a very rushed and unplanned response to sanctions that were enacted years ago. If you think you were already in violation the whole time, does it really matter if you spend a few weeks to remedy that properly?

    @lain @Wormwood @sun Yeah I don't really get the idea that every single eatery must tolerate and accommodate functionally illiterate customers. Like yeah if they're smack bang in the middle of a main street in a designated tourist hotspot there might be a case for it, but harassing izakayas on secluded backstreets for not wanting to deal with irregulars just seems mean-spirited.

    @bot @cassidyclown @mitchconner I'm just saying I support people being as picky as they want with one of the most important decisions of their life even if I disagree with their criteria.

    If someone said to me that I need to marry a woman to save the white race and there's tattoos/piercings/alcoholism/other substance abuse/prior sexual partners/obesity involved, call me a race traitor because I'd let it all end sooner than accept that burden.

    @bot @cassidyclown @mitchconner I don't think there's anything wrong with rejecting any proposal, and I don't like the idea that the proposal has to be some ritual where the answer was guaranteed indirectly ahead of time (wink wink nod nod when's it coming wink wink nod nod). I know it's a really important event to some people much like some (ok huge overlap) think the wedding needs to put them into house-level debt. Personally I'd rather elope and put all my resources into the honeymoon.

    @bot @cassidyclown @mitchconner Yeah making a show of it in front of strangers is cringe.

    Pressure from presence of known witnesses is understandable, but I do think if I were on the other end of an elaborate fancy proposal without witnesses I'd feel some pressure from the setup regardless (I'm not a woman so obviously this could be way off the mark). Plus you occasionally hear gossip about how some dude went to all the effort of doing one of those fairytale proposals only for the chick to turn him down and then people give her the stinkeye even if they weren't there when it happened, so pressure seems unavoidable outside of the proposition being nonchalantly slipped into a casual conversation.
