@pluralistic and the direct line from feudal lords ruling their villages to the attempt by the ultra-wealthy to roll society back before democracy and egalitarianism were popular ideas.

Or merely describing the behavior of whites that have less of a visceral stake in preserving multiracial egalitarian democracy?

Chris L (jayalane@mastodon.online)'s status on Thursday, 07-Nov-2024 11:46:43 JST Chris L @zens @timjan @Affekt @futurebird @EverydayMoggie the years of training also impart some of the subtleties of meaning. I mean I don't think math is a socially engaged subject as much as would be useful, but there are periodic waves of simplification where they go back and redo old cumbersome approaches for simpler ones. There just really is a whole lot of complex and subtle things to get into your mind.

Chris L (jayalane@mastodon.online)'s status on Thursday, 07-Nov-2024 11:20:27 JST Chris L @futurebird @EverydayMoggie my kids sign like they don't know cursive and while I smile in pleasure to see my kids writing, they are pretty lame signatures. My applied math teacher has a good spiel about making ones handwriting be super consistent and legible as a practice to reduce maths errors. (My own rate of success on a long PDE being less than fifty percent going to the class).

Chris L (jayalane@mastodon.online)'s status on Tuesday, 08-Oct-2024 17:49:12 JST Chris L @futurebird @inthehands Awesome. I have a background in math, tho I've worked in software my adult life, now my kids are grown I'm getting a masters in .. maths. My wife had a PhD in physics (and mocks all the care my classes take to prove calculus true) but is an artist now, abstract expressionism with painting at the moment. Of all of them, I believe mathematics is the one with the most purely joyous experiences.

Even if they only make citizenship unavailable for children of "illegal" people in the US those children will then have the challenge to produce proof of legal immigration for their parents when they where born. Or else swept into the camps. Depending on the color of the person no doubt.

Inciteful analysis of ways in which the Dems have squandered many political advantages and failed to think clearly. Also a funny writer!
