It's been going on for years, probably many decades, and the cops shouldn't be given a pass on any of their own crimes (and civil forfeiture is theft: no charges, no recourse).

I know a couple of people who were licensed security guards in CA. They were unarmed guards by choice - they'd passed the (very easy at the time) test to be armed.

Branch library near my parents' house burned, in the 1970s. (Electrical fire, not arson.) The fire department saved most of the books, and it was rebuilt. (It's been expanded since.)
Irony, or something: building was originally half library and half fire station.
