This doesn't surprise me, and this is the type of thing that would give the media and the GOP more fodder for attacks, as would an open convention.

Sorry, I won't go on. I'm trying not be a doomer right now, but it's really hard.

I'll vote for whomever is on the blue ticket. Hopefully Harris now.

OK, I take it back. We can do this. The support for Harris is phenomenal, and the fund raising since the announcement has also sparked.

And as Heather Cox Richardson just pointed out in her impromptu live session, Biden's timing of this announcement couldn't be better or more damaging to the GOP. They have an old, senile, incompetent man heading their ticket and his VP pick is a very loud misogynist and separatist.

Stopping Project 2025 is paramount, and Harris as our president will do this in style.

@GottaLaff: And yet this isn't the story that the media is promoting. They should be shouting it from the rooftops.

I got tired of this endless quagmire of media mendacity, so I decided to write my own essay as an American voter who is terrified by what is happening when the real crisis needs to be stopping Project 2025.

We have a president and vice president who are an incredible team who have been doing the best job of any White House team in my lifetime to be sure, yet the press continues to attack them in a one sided assault on our democracy.

    So, enjoy.

Point taken, though he dropped out at the end of March, not January, and the replacement didn't go well.

Nonetheless, we are now in July 2024. The primaries have completed, and Biden has the delegates for the convention at this point based on how the primary voters voted.

I'm with Laffy on this one. I'm not going to argue it anymore either. I'm just going to vote for the Democratic candidates on my ballot this fall as we all should because Project 2025 is the existential threat that faces us if we do not do that.

Exactly! Sounds like people really need to watch Heather Cox Richardson's recent CNN interview. She talks about this in some detail, and historically, a late replacement after the electorate has chosen its candidate will lose. It's a sure-fire way to hand the election to the other side.

Just look at the 1968 election - Johnson declined the nomination after being selected through the primaries, and switching to Hubert Humphrey gave Nixon the presidency. We all know what happened after that.

@GottaLaff: This is the core of the GOP's power grab. They don't want experts getting in the way of their ideological push, which puts every single one of us in grave danger. This is huge, and destructive.

Thanks, @jaykuo, for another important and clarifying post.

Trump is the same person he has always been. He's a mob boss. His whole value system is based on revenge, privilege, and the pursuit of power for himself. We tried to warn people in 2016, but their hatred of Hillary Clinton and "the other" was stronger than their common sense. We warned them again in 2020, and voters responded.

We are at the same crossroads again, and we have to make sure that Trump never comes near any public office ever again, and that we give the Biden administration another term to continue building back the middle class and working for all Americans. We have to ensure that Trump is held fully accountable for his crimes. The Manhattan verdicts, both civil and criminal, are only the beginning.

Right-wing media and Trump handlers are trying to soft pedal his open threats of retribution if reelected. We shouldn’t let them.

I do hope that he keeps getting sued for defamation every time he does that to somebody. Maybe that way at least he'll run out of assets entirely. Most banks already won't lend him money, at least not in the U.S.
