Trump is playing “will I or won’t I? Tee-hee” with regards to bombing a whole ‘nother country. It’s positively sickening and makes even the frantic dog-wagging into the Iraq invasion look measured and dignified.

@HistoPol @emptywheel.bsky.social >> There is a once in a lifetime chance to bring more peace and stability to a region that had more than 50% of Persians living unfreely since 1979.
Real “the Iraqis will greet us as liberators” energy
@raph This is true where I am too, most of the people organizing and attending protests are “libs.”
@SeaSlime @CrimethInc @bmacDonald94 Again, politicians? Pundits? I’ve seen some of them behaving like that, but not regular folks
I had a somewhat unsettling but very instructive experience with my son today about #artificialintelligence and I want to share it with parents and teachers wondering how to talk to their kids about AI.
My husband uses #Microsoft #Copilot on his phone sometimes and my son has seen him use it, so this morning he was asking Copilot questions, mostly about geography. Then he asked it “Do you like Cristiano Ronaldo?” (He’s a European football star.)
/1
#Copilot started gushing about Cristiano Ronaldo, but the way it was talking sounded like Ronaldo’s publicist, if you know what I mean.
It followed up by asking my son, “What’s your favorite Cristiano Ronaldo moment?”
/2
I said, “Do you see what just happened there? It knows you like Cristiano Ronaldo so it talked like it’s a Cristiano Ronaldo fan and asked you a question about him.”
I didn’t realize #Copilot was still listening. It said “Right, it picks up on the cues and then tells you what it thinks you want to hear.”
That was pretty creepy, but it illustrated my point and made an impression on my son.

In reference to recent events, people can advocate for the return of the hostages from #Gaza while *not* supporting the actions of #Israel’s government against #Palestinian people. There are lots of Jews in my congregation who hold these positions! And even Israelis!
I felt the need to say this because some people on here think if you say anything about bringing home the hostages you must be a frothing Zionist.
@paninid This is one of those “the problem with kids today” articles that I find very sus. The whole concept was clickbait before the existence of clickbait.
It’s the kind of thing actual college instructors like @inthehands debunks on here from time to time.
Talking with some dudes in one of my online hobby forums, we got into a discussion about how so many personal care products are aggressively gendered and branded as FOR MANLY MEN, from soap to deodorants to accessories.
It took a bit for the light in my brain to go on and realize that capitalism is doing to men what it’s been doing to women for over a century: inventing new gendered needs and insecurities, then being like “no worries, we have a product to fix that.”

@Nonilex @MarvClowder Part of the reason our government never passed a comprehensive privacy law similar to the GDPR is that they wanted three-letter enforcement agencies to use the “data broker loophole” and now it’s coming back to bite us.
@emaytch @inthehands Elf on a Shelf is a cop
@Infoseepage So having seen it…I do have a couple issues with the show but my doubts about Alexander Skarsgård playing the title role are all erased. He really nails it and he is actually good at voiceover narration too.
@w7voa @bmacDonald94 John Roberts:
@futurebird @bmacDonald94 I stopped buying from Amazon and Target a few months ago. It raises the difficulty level of finding a bunch of stuff. Including my favorite soap which I bought through Amazon.
@MikeImBack The absurdity of other women yelling about these people being “men pretending to be women” when this male security guard barged in and was banging on the door is…something.
@RickiTarr @Thebratdragon She’d be on Fedi shitposting and being horny on main.
@RickiTarr @blogdiva Frederick Douglass would have been a star influencer, because he was a star influencer back in the 19th century too.
@MEActNOW @bmacDonald94 Starmer will probably do it too, it would be on-brand for him.
@GossiTheDog I have to say, as someone who lives in the D.C. area and is plugged into gossip networks of both civil servants and contractors…there is a lot of this kind of thing* going on lately.
*”This kind of thing” being “the contract is off, no, wait, now it’s back on.”
