@RamenCatholic if you live near a Microcenter, Creality offers a selection of good 'starter' printers that are new user friendly with fairly decent upgrade paths. The Ender-3 V3 is still the default 'go to' beginner budget printer at $280 and there's a number of upgrade options. For beginner filament, go cheap. $15-20 per spool Inland brand is actually very solid stuff.

@grimalkina *THAT* is a very interesting question, in part because I don't see anybody looking at the very obvious degradation in systemic *comprehension*.
I work with people who are all-in on 'vibe coding,' and I can very, very clearly see how they no longer comprehend that their code does not operate in a vacuum. They have no comprehension at all of operating as part of a whole, only the small window the "AI" can work in.
But how do you *quantify* that?

@grimalkina yeah, there's a lot of questions. But when it's applied in the code/infra space, at least a basic systemic understanding is critical.

e.g. You have a basic systemic understanding of your electrical. Power comes in from the pole, goes into the breaker or fuse box, comes out the outlet or light. If you turn off a breaker, no power at the outlet connected to it. Turn on the switch for lights.

The output products I'm seeing basically treat the outlet as PFM(TM) and "what's a switch?"

@grimalkina I wouldn't necessarily argue that. But what I do know for fact is that more often than not, I have to argue with them about literally everything. Because they insist the AI can never be wrong. And if it says the switch is magic, and I say that the switch turns the light on, then I am wrong.
And if I say toppling this domino will topple other dominoes, then I am also wrong. They either can't or *refuse* to look past the very, very narrow window of the "AI."
