@glyph the thing that gets me is that python packaging has a bad rep but that's because most python packages people use have c dependencies

when it comes to c dependencies in other languages, everything sucks ass too, which is why ruby's nokogiri stopped linking against system libxml2 heh

@tef @glyph the main problems with this is that (a) the wasm runtime needs to run on your platform and wasmtime runs on like 5% of the ones python runs on and (b) wasm's dynamic linking story is very immature (doesn't work without JS, ~incompatible with threads)

every time someone shows me a 'good example' of LLM code, it's either a boilerplate webapp, or a wrapper that adds nothing except a shitload of bugs to the API of a mature open source library made of real human labor.

the thing LLMs for code excel at is making you think you wrote someone else's code.

@gsuberland KOReader in particular seems very well engineered, both from a user's perspective and a developer's (i'm currently looking at the Lua sources)

the UI feels like it's actually designed, for actual people, and not just a half-baked prototype someone slapped on github cause it was good enough

@gsuberland it's not instant but for me the tradeoff is worth it

@gsuberland something that i find very pleasing with this particular device is that you can turn off full page refreshes _entirely_ and it's still perfectly fine, unless you're reading manga

there's no ghosting if you're just reading text
