JP (froztbyte@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 19-Jul-2024 17:42:43 JST JP @GossiTheDog I don’t touch windows much at all these days, what particularly makes it non-automateable? I would’ve thought things like pxeboot’d scripted run envs or something could be viable, albeit that’s with a heavily *nix-background talking

JP (froztbyte@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 09-Feb-2024 02:04:38 JST JP @thomasfuchs “messy but doable”
You could pull the package archive metadata, unpack+read that, and compare (for this you’d need to keep state of remote version or compare at runtime)
there’s also apt commands but those would need execution somewhere that could run apt
Also you could have the host report its current and delta, then monitor the reports?
(Dunno what you’re trying to solve for, so just throwing ideas out)

JP (froztbyte@mastodon.social)'s status on Tuesday, 09-Jan-2024 00:51:41 JST JP @cstross haha yeah, systemd continues to be in that “it’s a nice idea, but it’d be nice if it were good” bucket
Admittedly I do tend to use it on a lot of things but pretty much _always_ with some swearing added in (because there’s always _some_ new flavour of bullshit localised)

JP (froztbyte@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Nov-2023 00:44:51 JST JP @hipsterelectron I've been thinking about that and I'm not really sure how one would go about getting it done (in the sense that I don't have sufficient domain knowledge, and there's also the thing about different regulatory zones)
and there's some interesting philosophical questions about rights/restrictions in the scope of it too (nature of enforcement, etc etc)
would love to do some reading about it if there's someone who's done the thinking and writing about it

JP (froztbyte@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 02-Sep-2023 04:28:34 JST JP @thomasfuchs haha it said 751MB for my M1 (but I guess it’s a two-stager as was mentioned in that post that was recently kicking around), but I had the same reaction
Even checked the security announces, nothing there. Keen to see a patch diff
