@rysiek some of the criticisms seem legit and still pose challenges. And it got a pretty good boost from the birdsite imploding. But I’m glad to see it still going and slowly improving. So nice to have a non commercial social media space!
@futurebird would be a good book or movie. The only issue is that I’m not sure it’s believable that an AI CEO would care so much about past misdeeds coming to light. They’ve moved past being concerned about accountability. Maybe one might worry about being double crossed by the president or some rival
@FediFollows@mastodonmigration can you help get the word out welcoming the ProPublica union account? They do some of the best reporting and investigative journalism out there and it’s so important that we support the workers who make it happen
@strypey@joshsjunkdrawer@peertube I do wish Peertube were easier to use. Took me like 5-10 minutes to find Josh’s channel on the app and I’m still not seeing how to follow it. Normies would’ve given up. I’m sure I’m just missing something but it seems like it’s harder than it should be
@strypey big kudos to @joshsjunkdrawer for moving over to @peertube and calling out the #enshittification of YouTube. The decline of YT has been obvious for a while but it’s seemed intractable to escape. Josh reminds us that it’s not.
@hellomiakoda@r_alb@Em0nM4stodon@privacyguides Not sure I have time for another hobby, but perhaps not as daunting as I was thinking. I have been getting off big tech, on to more privacy respecting software options over last couple years. And, might consider installing Linux on an old Macbook Air.
I went to my third #teslatakedown protest on Saturday, this time in the wealthy Seattle suburb of Bellevue. Great to see another strong turnout of an estimated 350 people and a largely very positive response from passersby. Incidentally, later that day I also traded in my model 3 for a Subaru Crosstrek. The national (int’l) momentum of this effort is a small bright spot in the fight back. I think there’s a chance it could impact tesla’s sales and stock price in significant way. But… 1/2
I worry that Elon is looking at other ways of securing his extreme wealth and power. Of course being Trump’s right hand man helps. Seems like obvious options are directing gov’t to fund and otherwise prop up Spacex and starlink, but no doubt other grifts are possible too. He may let Tesla fail if those other options bear fruit. Not that we shouldn’t try to weaken him thru this boycott protest.
@simonbp but what if he gets massive government contracts? For sure, it seems like hitting tesla can have some significant impact. Seems like the sooner the better. And lots of other efforts still needed in numerous areas to stop this regime.
@iftas For me, @pluralistic said it well at https://pluralistic.net/2024/11/02/ulysses-pact/. I can't totally rule out getting a BS account, but there's enough of a critical mass for me on Mastodon and the #fediverse seems like a better path long term for avoiding enshittification. I'd like to see more communities join tho, but this is also contingent on it becoming more welcoming and safe for them.
