Which should be a warning sign to local party chapters everywhere. There are a lot of conservatives who understand that running as a republican isn't a winning move in certain parts of the country, so they try to run as Democrats.

@artemis As a European/US dual citizen, I've come to realize a few things about the US.

Most importantly, this place is a casino that's pretending to be a nation. Some people get incredibly lucky and win big, and almost all of them are convinced that they both deserve their winnings and that luck played no part in their success. Most do not get lucky. Many lose their shirt. They all go back for one more roll though. Double or nothing.

And as with any good casino, the house always wins.

So, the two signals that are on my mind right now are Microsoft paying experienced workers to leave and switching from Microsoft Gaming back to Xbox branding.

The first is a short-term cost-saving measure. Older employees draw bigger salaries and cost more in terms of healthcare, and paying them to quit rather than laying them off can be the cheaper option.

The second indicates that the new head of their gaming division wants a reset.

Both of these together spell major trouble.

You don't do a branding reset if you're happy with how your business is going. They know MS Gaming is flailing, but they don't know why. That's scary.

And trying to save costs by telling your most experienced workers to GTFO is... I don't even have words for how bad things have to be for a move like that. Every worker is an investment. You train them, you teach them, and then they train the next generation. Cutting that part of the workforce is a move of desperation.

There's a storm brewing.

Lie through your god damn teeth. Rate yourself as highly as possible across the board, and make a pact with all of your coworkers to rate each other as "regularly exceeds expectations" or whatever as well.

I had several strong employees, and I was FORBIDDEN from giving them all the top rating. It's a scam.

Back when I was living in Munich, it was the same thing; get the weekly paper that had the rental ads in it (this was before there were online rental listings), call every single one that's in your price range, hope they still have an appointment left to tour the apartment, make your bid, hope you don't get outbid by another renter.
