"...Hackers ripped down a Flock camera above a roadway, made a near-complete copy of the data stored inside it, and shared the files with 404 Media and WIRED, revealing in new detail how exactly Flock Safety’s cameras track the movements of both vehicles and people. The hackers say they are also publishing details on how they managed to obtain the software, in the hopes that other people may copy them.

The breach provides an unprecedented look inside a system that Flock has described as protected by on-device encryption. The hackers were able to copy the camera’s storage and recover an encryption key stored on the device, which unlocked videos of thousands of vehicle detections..."

Hackers Stole Flock’s Camera Software, Revealing How the Company Tracks Cars and People
      from @josephfcox
While people around the U.S. are tearing down Flock cameras, one group of hackers went a step further: extracting the camera's software too.

And they have RAM chips. Does that make them more of a target?

@clickhere @Legit_Spaghetti @ai6yr Oh, great. Now I have to move the spare keys I kept under my doormat and a conspicuously nearby potted plant.

I'll re-hide them on the door frame and windowsill.

I am in no way a security expert, and I have my head in my hands here..

@GhostOnTheHalfShell @ai6yr thanks to 9/11 we had to do away with all our privacy in the name of national security. It's been a downhill slide ever since.

It’s important to remember that flock isn’t the only company doing this. Another major company is axon.

The assault is not from flock. The assault is on our personal privacy, on our solitude on the right and expectation to be left the fuck alone.

What we need is a fucking privacy law that makes invasion of privacy, including the devices in our homes illegal, and forces them to be shut down

The assault did surge in earnest around 911.

Funny thing is, we’re still Kissy Kissy with Saudi Arabia, where almost all of the participants were indoctrinated and came from

@cmthiede @GhostOnTheHalfShell @ai6yr “had to” was a highly successful narrative. The USA could have continued life defiantly, changing very little, but it chose to jail itself to absolve the fear/paranoia it felt.

@ai6yr @cmthiede @GhostOnTheHalfShell That, and the Bush family did business with the Bin Ladens, and allowed them to fly, exclusively, out of the party places in the US on 9/11/2001, and off to wherever they wanted to go except here. Our Constitution was burned by the politicians who exploited a most convenient coincidence with deep family ties to another Republican White House.
