If anything has proven the folly of #opt-out systems, it is the fact that robots.txt and spiders.txt are no longer respected by the plagiarism engines stealing the sum total of human knowledge in order to corrupt it and sell it back at a 10,000% markup.

Opt-out systems are ephemeral, and only operate as long as the aggressor chooses to respect it, which is to say, 'until they can get away with not doing so'.

TR-49 is an excellent little puzzle game, available for a low enough price right now on Steam, and well worth going through. Starting off as a regular mystery about the inner workings of a computer system, it turns into a story of over a century of heartbreak, angst, bravado and science fiction, with threads coming together in sometimes unexpected ways.

Highly recommended, there are some slightly easier or more difficult puzzles but one can turn the hints down and it's a nice headscratcher. Took me about 4 hours to work my way through, which is a nice timeframe for something like this.

The phrase 'politically motivated sentencing' should immediately cause every journalist covering this case to sit up and take notice, because it is precisely the high-profile event which should be described as a part of the rapid downslide into a fascist, authoritarian hellscape.

These people were not sentenced as they were because they committed crimes. These people were so sentenced because they were Trump's enemies. By being protesters they declared themselves in opposition to the reign of the Kumquat Komrade, and that is, evidently, worthy of a functional death sentence.

I'm constantly struck by how the same logic seems to permeate the cruelties of the Conservatives in all their incarnations. Abortions, for example. Make abortions fundamentally illegal except in cases where the exceptions can never be met in a timely fashion -- and then eliminate childcare provisions (on 'ideological grounds'!), healthcare and the like for children.

Or housing -- allow the private corporations and 'investor' class to buy up all the housing within a region in order to inflate the price, and then rather than assist with public housing, criminalize homelessness and destroy the property of the unhoused at every opportunity.

In each case, blame the victim - the disabled, the homeless, the pregnant, claiming that their suffering is a moral failing on their part. And in each case, highlight supposed edge cases which really don't exist as an example of what 'harm' helping these people could cause, be it the hypothetical Einstein or the theoretical person who intentionally becomes unhoused in order to take advantage of the largesse -- or as noted, supposed children who might be killed under MAID. (Death panels!)

The pattern is stark and almost impossible to ignore once it's seen.

A.R. Moxon has a pretty good statement on bullies and the fact that they will always continue to push, and push, and push some more, unless a line is clearly drawn. They make it impossible to ignore them. Their actions are calculated to that effect. Only when it's made clear that they can't push more, either through the intervention of authority or the victim lashing back out in a way they can't ignore, do they finally stop.

It's an old trick to assign agency, and every time I notice it I'm careful to pay attention, because that exposes the biases and intentions of the speaker.

At this point, the most patriotic thing for the contractors tasked with creating the Epstein Memorial Ballroom to do would be to fuck it up.

Delays in supply chains, delays in processing, delays in paperwork, delays, delays, delays. Fuck up the wiring, fuck up the walls, use substandard materials so that 3 months afterwards you'll see them crumbling like a house of cards in an earthquake. Provide no explanation for these other than that the contract was unclear. Pretend reasonable instructions were unreasonable; follow unreasonable instructions to the letter.
