@shoq When I was cross-posting to Twitter from Friendica I usually did the opposite. I ended up locking myself into the 280 limit so that it rendered well on Twitter.
@Andrewhinton I liked it but it seems that the latest series have veered heavily away from the whole "The Federation has solved major problems like poverty and internal wars, etc." A comment I made during the last Picard season when they were operating in drug infested slums where people were warming themselves by garbage can fires etc. was, "I think they are going for more of the Star Wars dystopia feel than Roddenberry's original approaching utopia feel." I think DS9 did a good job of balancing it more than TNG did without just devolving entirely to the hellscape milieu. www.youtube.com/watch?v=zh1pfr…
@szbalint I'm a small server on the Friendica side of the fediverse and had seen a bit of a spam account surge as well but very much in the noise. I know it is bad UX for a newbie but I have my server setup for open registration but requiring manual approval of each one. I don't envy large popular servers that can't practically do something like that.
I've been given links to several comment chains which have simultaneously been full of far left and right demagoging and conspiracy theory. The beauty of the fediverse is that my view of the world didn't have that. When I went to them I could see them but my world's view didn't have it. This is because of the nature of how the fediverse works. Specifically:
Federation isn't all-on-all
We don't have a click/engagement goosing algorithm shoveling the content in our faces
Users and server admins have powerful moderation tools
Ask me again why I prefer a decentralized, open source, open data, self hostable social network ecosystem over the walled gardens, new and old, that the SV VCs keep trying to lock us into. It isn't perfect but is improving. #fediverse#BigTech#SocialMedia
@Wraithe@MonaApp@goatsarah@tusker I'm the developer behind Relatica. Feel free to DM me for a link to the TestFlight code if you are trying to run on Apple devices(iOS and macOS). The downloads for all other platforms (Android, Linux, Windows) are here: gitlab.com/mysocialportal/rela…
@jacobtlevy@hackdefendr His net worth is not $50 million. He has a reelection campaign with that much money (probably more now but not personally). I imagine his net worth is quite a bit higher than it was when last reported in 2021 at just south of $400,000 because of the multi-million dollar book deal and will soon be able to command speaking gig fees in the six figure range like people like other high profile political figures do. I'm salty that he is essentially using Florida tax money to fund his country-wide and now world wide tour and it wouldn't surprise me if he was paying fast and loose with "non-personal" personal expenses from the campaign even above normal politician levels. But he's not worth $50 million. He's been greasing palms pretty lucratively from his perch so I imagine even if this campaign fizzles and he has to ride off into the sunset he is going to reap some serious cash prizes on the other side though. www.statesman.com/story/news/p…
@jacobtlevy@hackdefendr I hold him in high contempt but don’t think he intends anything of the sort. The psychological terror campaign is bad enough. At Gitmo he was a glorified paper pusher. Whether he got his rocks off witnessing and doing those things I can’t say and won’t speculate on. I would rather focus on the very real and very documented malfeasance from his time in political power.
@jacobtlevy Scary times ahead for sure...and the ringer the conservatives and Republicans want everyone to jump on, Ron DeSantis, is barely marginally better but just as autocratic and clinging to the right wing culture war grievance industrial complex.
@alfred@atomicpoet@fediversereport@choyer@ArtBear I don't know of any active development in that area. Once I get Relatica up to 1.0 status my first thing to vector back to is performance improvements and scalability improvements. I would love to see some work on both of those things as well. I agree those are killer features. Perhaps after all that I'd try to give a crack at it some, or maybe by then someone else would have :).
@goatsarah Glad you are enjoying it, even its very early beta state!

hankgI did my usual "after a vacation go clean up tags and friend requests" tour through Facebook. The UI was as bloated as ever. It was nice seeing pictures from a lot more IRL friends than here though, not going to light. I do feel better about something with Relatica as well from that trip. The "View More Comments" text button doesn't cause expanding/contracting comments right in the timeline. Instead it opens up the post in a dialog window that takes over the screen and then you can do the whole "more comments" thing if even that didn't load all of them. That is the same UX flow I implemented in Relatica because getting it working in-timeline was going to be very difficult and the UI experiments with it didn't look great. I guess I wasn't alone in that assessment :) #facebook#friendica#relatica

hankgI see from coverage by even some of the more stoic political pundits I follow that not only did 60 Minutes help normalize MTG by having her on and treating her like a normal politician but they also gave her a softball interview and style section style piece. Our media seems to display ever greater levels of incompetence at best and depraved indiffernce at worst as the stakes of the situation continue to grow. Bad news for all of us. #uspoli#60Minutes#msm
@MikeElgan I'm fortunate enough I don't have any reasons that force me to stay on Birshite/$8chan as it spirals the drain. What I recommend is that people start setting up camp elsewhere even if they can't leave entirely. It'll make the transition easier later. The enshitification (thank you @caseynewton for teaching me this term) is only going to get worse. #twitter
@goatsarah The keyboard you mean? Yeah I need to figure out why it is doing that :(. I'm hoping it is a simple change in the keyboard type selection or something in Flutter.
A note for users of the 0.2.0 version that are signed in with OAuth (not username/password within the app). The 0.2.0 version of the app didn't ask for potential permissions to be able to handle follow request management. Version 0.3.0 fixes that but because the maximum amount of permissions are defined when you authorize the app it is not possible for those old logins to ever have support for that. The way to fix that is to sign out of that login, delete it, and then create it again.
