@thomasfuchs I didn't realize you could make it look that much like Windows2000 still. I thought they ripped that out back in the Vista/7 era. It could still go to "classic" look but it was a poor imitation compared to that. -

@bmacDonald94 It may have been a generational difference and by the time I was a kid in the 1980s they finally got their scientific shit together. As very little kids we were taught a literal Adam and Eve, Noah's Ark etc., but by the time we were in middle school (IIRC) it was that that was allegory/metaphor not science. -

Days like this I'm so glad I am on iOS instead of Android. But I fear there will be a day sooner than later that Apple will do this too. I've seen enough good from Rolling Stone to add them as the third mainstream publication I'll throw subscription money at: the other two being my local paper and Wired. After the last few years of MSM just totally dropping the ball I slashed all subscriptions except to newsletters, Patreons of writers I found solid, and new media organizations like The Bulwark, Flaming Hydra, and 404 Media. They've had their foibles in the past but all have. -

I've now completed Andor and capped it off by rewatching Rogue One. It was pretty much as perfect a continuity as you are going to get even if it was a series from start to finish. Rogue One is the best Star Wars movie of the modern era. Andor is the best Star Wars series of the modern era, one of the top series made today period. #scifi #StarWars #Andor #RogueOne -

I highly advise people to not travel to the United States for the time being. A French scientist was denied entry to the US and expelled because his phone had messages decrying scientific policies put forth by the Trump Administration. More disturbingly these messages were being equated with terrorism because it was "hateful towards the Trump Administration". This person at least didn't have to deal with weeks wasn't disappeared and suffer through torture like other tourists have been at the hands of ICE for absolutely no reason whatsoever. When I was a kid my school was trying to arrange a trip to the USSR. They would talk about all the precautions to take to not get in trouble with authorities and then god knows what would happen. I hated the idea of setting foot in a country like that. Now we are living in it. Thanks MAGA supporters and Trump voters! Sadly, as of this date the majority of them say they like what he's doing on immigration, in other words they like this shit. TIL there is something called "The Eastern Continental Trail" which is an ~6000 mile mega-trail running from Key West to Newfoundland (with some help of ferries) made by assembling several trails including the Appalachian Trail. Interesting... #hiking

We need an element with the energy, fight, and direct messaging potential of the Tea Party to take over the Democratic Party. Where are those people/orgs so I can give them my time and money? These Do Nothing Democratic leaders aren't cutting it and never will. The Democrats that are doing stuff are maybe the kernel around which such a movement can build: AOC and Frost in the House, Pritzker and Walz at governor level. I'm sure there are others. But it needs to be a consolidating movement not a handful of politicians spread thinly throughout the country. It probably needs to be some sort of insurgency at first, like the Tea Party, that then overwhelms the party and then take leadership. If we can have it without all the batshittery that'd be ideal. At this point even some batshittery is a price to pay for getting rid of these Do Nothing Democratic "leaders". And no, a new party isn't a solution. If you can't take over a shell of a party lead by feckless mealy mouth do nothing leaders you can't start one from scratch that takes real power in the country. Also, no this is not about needing far left policies. My frustration is coming from the position of a pretty centrist but left leaning person. I know I see that frustration from across the political spectrum. There is a vacuum that can be filled. It *needs* to be filled if we are to survive as some semblance of a representative democracy rather than some Hungary or Russia-like autocracy. #uspoli #rant
