   Disappointed with SNW S2 opener :-(

   Something about medical people in the Trek universe engaging in violence & torture … then showing the torture working as a truth extraction technique … I dunno. Doesn’t feel very Roddenberry to me.

     It may be a societal shift we’re seeing. Even though TOS and TNG both started during the Cold War, there was somehow a feeling in the water that it was possible for the future to be better…that it would be better, and we just had to make our way to it. I don’t sense that feeling much now.

     @Andrewhinton I liked it but it seems that the latest series have veered heavily away from the whole "The Federation has solved major problems like poverty and internal wars, etc." A comment I made during the last Picard season when they were operating in drug infested slums where people were warming themselves by garbage can fires etc. was, "I think they are going for more of the Star Wars dystopia feel than Roddenberry's original approaching utopia feel." I think DS9 did a good job of balancing it more than TNG did without just devolving entirely to the hellscape milieu. www.youtube.com/watch?v=zh1pfr…
