I’ve avoided the sites which have come to be referred to as “social media” for years. My normal haunts have always been oldschool forums so I never felt compelled to join any SNS. And even this still feels like such unfamiliar terrain to me.

Not so much that they lost control but that for the first time their narrative was so far removed from the general population that their traditional leverages couldn’t extend far enough to accommodate the new extreme.

@ryo @Telvannichad @sapphire There was a period of time in the 80s and 90s where Disney (I know, pedophiles…) and Dreamworks were having some back and forth producing some memorable works. I think some were still using rotoscoping and conveyed weightedness and lighting properly. It’s just a damn shame that the animations were largely targeted for children. And by the time the aughts began, the family/children animation industry had pretty much been taken over by CGI. Western cartoons for adult markets are still stuck on family guy tier stuff that never takes itself seriously.

@digdeeper @ryo It’s eternally frustrating. I view Dollar vigilante material and he just recently “returned” to youtube with a channel he “forgot” about. After getting purged, communist style, then making a mockery of it and going on to gloat about how much more free he is with his own peertube site + alts, he is happy to crawl back in bed with youtube. :blobcatglare: I really can’t see how being allowed back onto centralized anything as a cause for celebration.

@JapanAnon Switching back and forth is very helpful actually :msn_laugh: . I tried recommending Libreplanet to do something similar with Minetest as a virtual location, since they’re stuck doing remote conferences anyway but they didn’t bite and fell to using some 2D gamelike implementation instead.

Minetest 5.6 dropped recently. Hoping your next stream can have those pretty real time shadows.

@xianc78 They keep enough minimum separation distance from the public facing front to remain unknown. Think tanks and specialized organizations interface with governments and sufficiently large corporations to effectuate desired outcomes.

I would really like to know who exactly sits at the helm but in all honesty none of us are probably ever going to have the satisfaction of knowing the truth. Those who squabble that events are solely the workings of one single group have blinders on.

@ryo They furthered the balkanization of renderers by creating Metal as a totally NIH isolated island, harming OpenGL and OpenGL ES in the process. They’ve also recently abandoned CUPS printer driver. It’s as if CrApple are going through their own history to make a point to cut out any standardized interoperable component possible. This is one of the reasons why I believe we are looking at an eventual bifurcation of the major operating systems in which nothing, not even file types or CPU architectures, will be compatible with those of the other tribes.

@ryo I recall one report he says he’s dropping Monero because wokists are among it’s contributors. Although this is true of a lot of free software. And later he’s back onto promoting Monero. I wonder if they will keep promoting Pirate chain once or if Monero adopts zk-snarks. I haven’t touched the newer stuff myself yet because I follow the withered technology approach… and Monero is approaching a decade of existence :pepepopcornhappy: .

Also you can find Dollar Vigilante talks from 2020 and 2021 where he states “by this time next year there won’t be any food / almost everyone will be dead / the dollar will be gone / etc.” He’s giving best guesses but does not take into account that extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Benefit of the doubt for now.
