     Production is ramping back up on these. Bypass the whole chase of reverse engineering parts from hostile vendors and just get something that supports free software right from the start.

     @Suiseiseki I got image, but just a terminal doesn't cut it, nor should it. It's perfectly possible to have a decent UI with 100% free software. As for writing drivers, that's way out of my league and I do have other things to spend my time on. Especially since by the time writing such drivers may be feasible to me (if ever), the hardware will be obsolete anyhow.
     And no, the hardware is not junk, it runs and it runs fine enough for my needs. And yes, having hardware that can be purchased once and repaired in the future would be the ideal. That means open source hardware with proper capabilities. I don't know if that's a thing, but I assume not. The sad truth is that throwing away my current laptop won't result in it becoming such hardware, so that's not a solution.

     Be honest. Did you not get any image at all?
     It's sucky if you can't use Xorg, but you can always use emacs in the framebuffer if you have the will.

     The real solution is to write replacement drivers for such hardware, but if doing that is next to impossible (any intel from 2009 onwards, AMD since zen and nvidia since the 800 series I think), that hardware is sadly just junk - which hopefully can be recycled and used to construct hardware that actually works and can be purchased once, then repaired in the future, thus eliminating waste.

     @avalos funnily enough, the reason I run kubuntu on my lappy instead of triskel is because triskel doesn't run due to the graphics card :blobfox3c:

     @wrongthink @Suiseiseki @ilja Good luck finding anything that's actually available though.
     RISC-V boards are still insanely difficult to find, ThinkPad X200 is also insanely hard to find and if you find one they'll want to have a lot of "money" for it too, and PINE64's hardware seems to be the closest to free hardware, but are still not entirely blob-free (especially when it comes to WiFi and/or 4G).
