@Suiseiseki I got image, but just a terminal doesn't cut it, nor should it. It's perfectly possible to have a decent UI with 100% free software. As for writing drivers, that's way out of my league and I do have other things to spend my time on. Especially since by the time writing such drivers may be feasible to me (if ever), the hardware will be obsolete anyhow.
And no, the hardware is not junk, it runs and it runs fine enough for my needs. And yes, having hardware that can be purchased once and repaired in the future would be the ideal. That means open source hardware with proper capabilities. I don't know if that's a thing, but I assume not. The sad truth is that throwing away my current laptop won't result in it becoming such hardware, so that's not a solution.
