Be honest. Did you not get any image at all?
It's sucky if you can't use Xorg, but you can always use emacs in the framebuffer if you have the will.

The real solution is to write replacement drivers for such hardware, but if doing that is next to impossible (any intel from 2009 onwards, AMD since zen and nvidia since the 800 series I think), that hardware is sadly just junk - which hopefully can be recycled and used to construct hardware that actually works and can be purchased once, then repaired in the future, thus eliminating waste.
