You're not that likely to see it unless you are a target of it (or you help run an instance), because most of it occurs in DMs or as replies to specific people. It's commonplace for different groups of people to have extremely different experiences on Mastodon, and for those experiences to be largely invisible to others, just because of the way the core systems work.

So absolutely believe people who tell you they've been subjected to racist harassment, even if you have never seen that.

Belated, I know, but thank you for sharing that with me! I tried it in some muffins and it works much better than the previous mixture I had used, which for some reason used salt where this one uses starch.

I didn't have any arrowroot so I substituted cassava and that worked.

Any type of surveillance tech should be fought, of course. I think our odds of prevailing are near zero, but still.

They could be. But license plate readers make identification a whole lot easier and more accurate. So on the whole, I think you're harder to surveil outside of a car, so long as you don't allow your phone to broadcast your location.

The unconventional drivetrains thing reminded me of these videos. Some of these drivetrains are downright bizarre. Strings? Who would ever think of doing that?

Oddly enough, I can't make pancakes from scratch anymore, because it appears you can no longer buy baking powder that doesn't contain corn, and I'm allergic to corn.

I can use the gluten-free pancake mix from King Arthur, so at least I can make some pancakes.

Having seen what a huge proportion of new users create an account and then just never seem to do anything with it, I really believe Mastodon needs something like starter packs, and maybe even a little automated thing that offers a few upon signup (this part could be managed by instance admins, rather than universally). Follow lists are ok but the mechanism for importing them needs to be simplified a lot, like "click this button" simple.

The one big thing I would change is that people should have to grant permission before being included in someone's recommendations.

I have read that if the car is in deep water, it's more less impossible to open a door due to the immense pressure, and that breaking a window is your only viable option.

I will ride on the sidewalk in some places, regardless of legality, where the car traffic is just too hazardous. But I try to go at pedestrian speeds and carefully yield to people walking.
