When EM bought the dead bird site, there was a story I read (by an ex twitter programmer) which summed him up so well (slightly paraphrased): "When I heard him talk about Rockets, not knowing anything, I thought 'this guy knows his stuff!'. When he talked about electric cars, not knowing anything, I thought 'this guy knows his stuff!' When he talked about programming and twitter, I thought 'this guy's an idiot!', and I suddenly saw his other comments in the same light"
I'm really starting to like Star Wars: Andor. It seemed really unrelated to the Universe. But I'm starting to see that it's actually a warning of what's to come first in the US, and maybe the world. The episode where it really hit home was episode 7: Announcement. I won't spoil it, but watch that and tell me we're not seeing the beginnings of this in the US? Ok, it's sci-fi, so it's a little extra, but tell me I'm wrong!
@sinituulia@WizardOfDocs My ex-wife always used to like to lay on her front and doomscroll before bed. Our cat used to like coming up and snuggling up on her butt. This would pin my ex to her front for fear of getting attacked. I was often employed to 'frighten' the cat off by throwing the covers off or something. Neither ever learned. 😂
My first crafty blog post is out and federated, available on @dodothehooker and I will use it as a place to talk about my crafting journey that requires more than 500 characters.
No it isn't. It wasn't even considered by me till I hit the deck when a firework went off the other night. The next 2 months are going to be... Interesting.
@Lokjo@librewolf@aral Looks to me like it's time to move back to @Vivaldi who have at least been very transparent when it comes to (recent) privacy settings.
@BeAware Absolutely. But most "non-tech" people don't know this. They think AI is like Jarvis/Friday from Ironman and therefore believe that a pregnant woman *should* smoke 2 cigarettes a day.
@BeAware Yes, there is a lot of hate. I don't inherently hate AI, but I do dislike the hype round something being _called_ AI.
My son is a university studying AI and the stuff he does sounds awesome! But the stuff that is being forced fed on everyone is painful. I'm sure it will, one day, become useful, but that's a long way off.
Wow, I haven't been on the bird site since I joined Masto, but it's interesting to see the contrast in reaction to a WWDC:
On the bird site, it was all excitement, astonishment and joy. There were a _few_ angry posts, and the odd Windows person not understanding anything, but the general mood was positive.
Contrast that to Mastodon, and it's the complete opposite. A lot of distrust, disappointment and most people saying "go to Linux".
@CloudyMrs@Strider Sadly, the problem with the NHS (my experience is England, but imagine it's similar for Scotland and Wales) is that although it's a national service, every individual trust can make up its own rules/targets/policies, which turns one national service into a massive array of contradicting departments. I work for an ambulance trust that covers a vast region, and the hospital trusts are all different. One trust will allow one thing, where its neighbour won't. THAT's the problem!
@babe@aral I was once barrated for using my mobility scooter. They threatened to call the police.on me, claiming I "clearly pinched it from some old Granny to go on a joy ride". The fact it only did 4mph means it wasn't much of a 'Joyride'.
