When EM bought the dead bird site, there was a story I read (by an ex twitter programmer) which summed him up so well (slightly paraphrased):
"When I heard him talk about Rockets, not knowing anything, I thought 'this guy knows his stuff!'.
When he talked about electric cars, not knowing anything, I thought 'this guy knows his stuff!'
When he talked about programming and twitter, I thought 'this guy's an idiot!', and I suddenly saw his other comments in the same light"
