Trying to quickly take a nice little clip of Karvinen doing his self serve uppies for Caturday, and getting swarmed by all three boys instead... Cats!

A miserable complaint:
You know what really grinds my gears? When people who speak English as their first language have no fucking clue what they're talking about and have the gall to correct you about something they're wrong about, about their own language.I learned the fucking rules and grammar! I checked the spelling in the dictionary! I read the style guides and the outlines of prose and poetry, I studied the classics! Sit the fuck down and go home to learn your own fucking language you silly oblivious little git. 👿

@inthehands This is the Electrolux Pure 500, it's not a new model and I had some trouble finding a shop that stocked it, but it certainly works straight out of the box and very quietly. I can hear the old one from the door of the room it's in, and this one barely past the whirr of my PC when I'm right next to it.
Haven't tested the loudness levels of it on max, but it's not like that's what it's going to be all the time anyway 😄 -

The new air purifier has arrived and is now gently softly whirring, purifying the air! The old one is in the bedroom, making a huge racket in comparison. Now if I could get a new filter for the old one, that would be great...
In any case, double air purifiers. My flat isn't very big so the old one just about did it, but am curious to see how much more of an effect there is post-smoker polluting my air, now!

@Infoseepage Also after the Great Depression I think though can't say for sure, as anything past 1920 is no longer my area of expertise!
The companies would put different prints, flowers or stripes etc. on the fabric, in pretty colours. I have the vaguest idea one company might have put multiple print designs on their sacks, so people would be encouraged to buy more than one if they could...

Thinking about this old book I read, "How to make over old dresses" by Augusta Prescott, 1892. In it she tells us how to take apart, wash, possibly re-dye and then make a new dress out of an old one... And past the whole of "a good housewife simply must properly clothe her legion of children" it's fascinating. How much effort went into it, because if you weren't rich, that was good fabric and you had to make do!

@skinnylatte A Chinese friend had one of those big honking ones and made fresh soy milk for me one day. It was nice, but also hotter than the sun when it just came out, so naturally I burnt my tongue. But it was very nice, and got used in a bunch of things!
Her Finland-born daughter didn't like it because she expected it to taste like milk... 😭

@skinnylatte She also showed me the only restaurant in my city that made "real" doufu and sold it as is to customers, and it was the nicest I'd ever had outside of a Vietnamese restaurant where it was already marinated and fried, and constantly kept selling out so you had to be in the know and rush over if you wanted some - hours within of when it was made!

Mastodon/Fediverse has trained me so well with the ubiquitous Alt text that whenever I'm outside it and look at something I can't make out all the details of, I attempt to read the Alt text, find it doesn't exist, get annoyed, and then have a sort of reality readjustment when I have to remember they're not actually ubiquitous and available elsewhere.
...And I still can't make sense of what I'm looking at! -

For sure I was thinking of doing something today, but thus far it escapes me.
In the night all three cats decided they wanted to sleep on me, and I woke up at one point to the biggest one, Pörri, daintily and carefully settling on my chest, while I had Kerv in the crook of my arm and neck, and Musti on my legs. And then I fell asleep and woke up to my alarm at about noon like I time travelled. 😆 I don't know if my brain can handle that much sleep

Oh yeah, I was thinking of putting together the panel for the soutache for the linen skirt. My initial plan is to tape together the pattern pieces, draft a whole wedge from that, scribble something on it, then trace the scribble onto the white linen that is sheer enough to see through... And then attach that to the skirt, sewing through all layers by hand to make it appear on the right side... And then sew on soutache by hand for a million years.
Also I need to think of a project hashtag.

Drafted the shape for the base of where the soutache can go, and... A sir is being very helpful.
He likes the crinkle the paper makes. -

Well. That took absolutely no time at all to get drastically out of hand.
I think I'm gonna use the project hashtag #TheSoutacheLinenSkirt so I can collate all of my struggles in one place! -

The eye demands more feathers, and more complicated feathers. The brain reminds me that I'll be sewing all of that on by hand!

There's four feathers in all, and I've somehow managed to trace them onto the linen, and the linen with the pattern is now basted onto the wrong side of the skirt, and... I guess now I need to start going over the pattern with black thread so I can see it from the right side?

Holy fuck it does work. 😆 :blob_sweat:
It's a little bit wobbly because this is literally the first time I've ever sewn on soutache and I'm deeply thankful for my demi-ambidextrous brain because that helped. Oh heck! -
