You know how in fiction and myth you can curse someone with the knowledge of how they will die, just not the when?

Well. It's a bit wild and interesting to me that for me, I got given that information at 25, with my diagnosis. Medication but no cure, and if everything goes perfectly, I stick to the routine, and the medication works and keeps on working, and nothing else kills me first... It's going to kill me a lot lot later as opposed to a handful to a dozen years, nobody knows for sure. But it is going to kill me.

Finnish lesson of the day: Duct tape is colloquially known as jeesusteippi. Because Jesus saves you, duct tape saves you, makes perfect sense. All small not capitalised because it's a general item and not a name, and also casually blasphemous for fun, which is extremely on brand for Finnish!

It's also shortened to the diminutives jesse and jesari. Used in a sentence:
"Laita vähän jesaria, kyllä se siitä." Apply some duct tape, it'll be fine.
"Jessellähän minä." Well, I did in fact repair it with some duct tape, actually.

Checking whether I want to use ton or tonne because I have the vaguest memory that it's different in UK and US English, can't remember which is which, and have learned yet another ridiculous thing I didn't know:
"Ton is an American unit of 2,000 pounds, while tonne is a metric unit of 1,000 kilograms."

😐 What the fuck is wrong with you people? Two thousand?! In what world is that a reasonable amount?? It's not even a thousand pounds, which is already a fucking mess of an unit? Fuck

Does the visiting sir have any idea that he's quite photogenic, and that I spent some ten minutes vacuuming cat hair off that quilt so I could take nice pictures of him the other day? Probably not.

Just in case you didn't know: You can re-dye clothes at home. You'll need a washing machine for it unless you're really into kitchen alchemy, but you can just... Do it.
A deeper version of the same colour, making it black again (or instead), removing a colour you don't like and making it something else? It's possible. There's caveats but you can just do it!

Left to my own devices while ironing (I try to have a video or a podcast on) I have in fact decided that I want or need to make yet another petticoat. Just a little one! I only have one white petticoat you see, and it's got stripes, so it's not actually white. And if I could make it really fluffy, it would be light enough to wear with another petticoat as well.
And I, for some reason, just ordered a gathering foot for my Husqvarna as well, so it shouldn't be as arduous a process as usual...

For reference, this is what the petticoat sewing process usually looks like, in the form of two gifs.

Oh, right. Took photos of the finished nightdress and then immediately forgot about them. There's quite a bit of width though you can't tell from the photos, it took multiple leisurely hours to hem. A mix of two or three leftover pieces of linen I had in my stash from who knows when, a mix of machine and hand sewing.
To get sacrificed to some dark goddess, to haunt a mansion, or to just sleep in!

@Remittancegirl Thank you! :blob_cat_heart: Everything else is quite nicely finished on the inside, too, except the lower part of the armholes since I just whipstitched those because it was late and the overlocker would have been loud. 😄

@Remittancegirl They're great for when you need to do a lot of things. Petticoat seams, the long seams of some big garment that needs a lot of other hand finishing like a coat, etc... If you've got the tension right the overlock is also pretty flexible, so it's nice inside arm's eyes, sleeves and such... But what I love it most for is sewing together a flat-lining and fashion fabric layer and finishing both in one go! Or going over the edges of some large piece of fraying fabric I know I'll be throwing about a lot, like skirt pieces. It's SO fast for that!

@Remittancegirl Yeah, even when I'm working with stretch (currently only lingerie, as I hate how pretty much the whole thing is ruined when the 5% elasthane in a garment gives up) I don't always use an overlocker, since encasing the seams some other way and zigzag mostly works... The overlocker is so loud. 😭 And I'm not going to get it out and set up for something that small.

For several years now I've not been able to buy any suiting fabric for a nice skirt because they all have stretch in them?? Pls no!

Heard on podcast, and now for your enjoyment, related to funding allocated to municipal and transportation projects, in this case trains... But perhaps broadly applicable to quite a few situations: "You don't build a bridge based on how many people swim across the water!"

Lamenting thus I open another tab, and lo! My favourite actual play horror podcast has uploaded another hour long episode! A cornerstone of my chores completion, something to listen to while I do something boring.

The two forces that struggle within me are that ironing isn't terrible and I kind of like it but it's boring and takes a long time. But ironed linen is also the nicest possible feeling textile and sensation against my skin, and crisp linen wears for so many more days than cotton, so it saves effort and energy in the end... But only if I do the ironing!

What's the operating range on Bluetooth earbuds these days? On reasonable ones, not the cheapest and not the most expensive? (I'm not looking to buy any exactly, but am curious.)

Also I know some things affect radio signals, so what's a definite BT signal killer? I know an electric kettle makes the WiFi dip in latency and a friend always dropped out of VOIP chats when using the microwave, but are there actually known and verified things that do this?
