There will also be a pilot on the boat to take the captain's place while he is sleeping. Every large vessel has a captain and pilot from towboats on up.
@VikingWays@sapphire@sickburnbro I spent some time living on the Mississippi on a towboat. If I had been single at the time, I might still be on the river. I was a first mate on the William F. Plattner when I left. They wanted to train me to be a pilot, but that life is shit for a married man.
The wife and I had six kids. There is little difference between having three kids and six kids. The workload seems to double when you go from two to three kids, but doesn't seem much different between three and six. Just my experience.
