@davidaugust what if this was an accidental reply-all, or he sent to the "Generals - All" list when he meant to send to "Generals - Alabama", and now he's too embarrassed to admit it was a mistake. Right now the Pentagon is scrambling to book a conference centre on short notice because they just reserved a meeting room with 10 chairs.

Business owner: If they take away the two on-street parking spots on the east side of our business (to replace them with a bus lane for the bus route that brings over a thousand people a day to the area), we'll be crushed, wiped out, devastated.
Where the business is:

@aesthr @BenRiceM It seems to me that *in principle* that could be a decent system, if the computers did all the fiddly work for you.
Like: I select the photos I want to send, and the bluetooth name of your device I want to send to. You acknowledge that you want to receive the photos. Then the two cameras/phones/smart waffle irons talk bluetooth to agree on an ad hoc wifi network, then talk HTTP to transfer the files, then tear everything down once receipt is confirmed.

@dyckron @giflian I mean, when you look at the surveys for preferred prime minister, Carney is way out in front, but who else are you gonna pick? It's not like k.d. lang is on the list of options.

@dramypsyd Traveling with our kid some years ago, I think he'd have been 5, we explained that we were going to head to a ferry terminal wait to board, ride the ferry to Vancouver Island, etc.
He was very disappointed when he learned that a ferry was just a kind of boat - he was looking forward to getting a piggy back from a winged fairy.

@checkervest this is my shower faucet. It has a 180 degree throw, but the rightmost 88 degrees deliver freezing cold water and the leftmost 88 degrees deliver painfully scalding hot water - all conceivable comfortable temperatures for shower water are to be found in the middle 4 degrees of travel.

@rk @AlisonCreekside Alberta unsurprisingly had the highest percentage of traitors, but not by nearly the margin you might think

Saw the prep for some big police raid as I was walking my dog earlier. Two police MRAP type vehicles, two unmarked but clearly police SUVs, and an anmbulance, slow rolled up to the intersection where I was, then one MRAP and one SUV broke right to make a pincer movement on their target.
Weird feeling seeing that. I took myself and the dog a block left, don't want cops shooting the dog or some damn thing.
I guess in a few days I'll probably get to read what that was about.

Going to travel by #viarail train soon. I continue to be blown away that the Edmonton VIA Rail station is 1.3 km from the nearest city bus stop, and 750 m from the nearest *sidewalk* (in winter I assume the whole route would have effectively no sidewalk because who's going to shovel 600 m of sidewalk that leads nowhere?).

@GhostOnTheHalfShell @bmacDonald94 That's quite right - I'm not sure when Malcolm X said/wrote the above, but he died in 1965. The Republican party's "Southern Strategy" of deliberately being racist to capture the southern states started for real in the 1964 election, after the passage of the Civil Rights Act (under a Democratic president, but support / opposition was mainly split not along party lines but between former Union and Confederate states).

@jeffowski to be clear - do you mean you are an autistic person desiring answers from anyone, or are you asking that autistic people in particular answer the question?

@scribe I use pwsafe for its simplicity, open sourceitude, availability on all the OS's I use, and non-reliance on cloud anything - but it's just a password manager, not an MFA software. (I do sync the password database file over a cloud service, but it's not a dependency)

@zens @liamvhogan what I'm trying to get at is, the yogurt must be pretty bad if you could sell sour cream as it.
Good sour cream exists here in Canada (though you're going a bit out of your way to get it, the sour cream from any of the big brands is mediocre), but no matter how good or bad it is, it would make an awful yogurt.

@zens @liamvhogan oh god I hope you're wrong about that. I eat muesli with yoghurt at breakfast, I eat yoghurt with honey or marmalade stirred in for dessert, I marinate meats in yoghurt with spices mixed in. Doing any of those with sour cream would be disgusting. Is British yoghurt that bad?
I'd call American sour cream more of a somewhat lower quality creme fraiche. It's nothing like yoghurt.

@waitworry @RickiTarr "I'm obviously a good driver, my car has no dents in it because it's never been in a crash."
"When did you buy it?"
"Last month."
"Why did you buy a new car last month?"
"I crashed the last one." -

@Shrigglepuss I've literally never had a work computer that was as quick and responsive as the 300 MHz blue and white Mac G3 desktop I got in about 1998. From pressing the power button to doing my first productive task, there's just no contest.

I recently read an article (which was interesting and I learned stuff and all) where they were talking about commodity prices per metric tonne, using the abbreviation "mt".
And just. Guh! An abbreviated metric unit (which the tonne really isn't, the whole point of a metric system is we should be calling it a megagram, but anyway), that starts with a lowercase m. We know what that means, it should be 1/1000 of whatever a t is.
