@ned Oh, here's a thing to know about Pokemon. I don't know if this applies to the newer ones but they do two or three kinds of remake. If you look at the titles you'll notice some are similar. They're the more normal kind of remake.
eg. Pokemon Red then some years later "Fire Red." Same game but newer device, newer graphics, some new features etc.
But then at the time they will make "Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue" where it was essentially the same game with very minor differences. Particularly a couple of pokemon appear in one version and not the other. In theory it incentivizes kids to play with each other to get them all. More cynically it meant parents with a bit more cash probably bought both games, two game boys and a link cable for one kid.
Then the third kind is they'll do a thing like release Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver and the year after Pokemon Crystal. Where Crystal was essentially the same as Gold and Silver but with extra content.
One thing that has been with Pokemon games for a while is there will be varying amounts of content that gets discontinued shortly after the generation.
@ned How the pokemon games work is there are "generations" where it's the core games that came out at a particular time and satellite smaller titles. There was usually ways to connect one gen to another but in a limited fashion. I have only played up to gen 8, the pre-switch stuff. I can't speak to what the switch stuff is like. I imagine I would turn my nose up at it as a crusty old 30+ yo boomer. But, being as it's what is available now and it's easier to have on a big TV: it's probably the easiest way for the family to enjoy it together. Also, since you didn't play it, you're not necessarily going to have any extra enthusiasm for the older titles that you want to share with your kids anyway.
@NathanielHigger1488 Remember: you can repent of a murder but you can't repent of a suicide. Jesus could have forgiven Judas for betraying him - the suicide is what damned him.
@poastoak@ned Electric is nice sometimes but you can just get an electric hotplate that would plug into an outlet. It's not as easy to have a plug-in gas stove.
@ned My father's take: >I watch TV news and we have to change to electric or we're fucking fucked, for some reason! My mother's take: >Fuck you. I prefer cooking on gas. My take: >Mixed is better because if you lost one at least you haven't lost everything all at once. Plus, if the government and the TV say it then I must do the opposite.
@martianvenator We grow amazing berries. You know where they end up? We sell them to China. Used to get free berries off of some folks that picked berries as a side job. They're incredibly different. So next time you feel bad being a fat fuck that doesn't eat enough fruit - don't feel too bad for not liking watery garbage.
Arcade would probably cost you at least a quarter million to set up and assuming you're keeping pace you're probably dropping that again every five years. How many people were there putting money into the machines? Would you invest in one?
A girl once told me about a girl she went to school with. She admitted to her that she was into kids. What was she studying to become at university? Primary school teacher. ie. Teaching kids ages 5-10 or so. A guy I went to school with sexually abused a bunch of kids in the neighbourhood and he was probably younger than 16 at the time. Some people are kid touchers when they are still kids and make life decisions based around getting access to kids.
@Humpleupagus@Silverwolf@chiamaluca@useless_idiot@dassauerkraut Unvaxxed, never had covid as far as I know. Last time I got a cold I wore a mask to the store when going to buy a test for it. How often do you see people wearing masks now? My sister works a customer-facing job and I think she has had it three times so far.
