That's what happens when you have mass production and industrialized farming. When the People have plenty, they get lazy. Laziness breeds complacency, because they are not being forced through the hard times it takes to keep their edge. One of the biggest factors in this was the post-war economic boom of the 1950s, and what made it worse was them coming out of the Great Depression. Those who had suffered hardship now threw themselves gleefully into consumerism. -

I think it would be "let the system collapse" but the problem now is how many people are utterly dependent on the synthetic production structure. Turn off the electric, and fuel cannot be pumped, farming shuts down as water cannot be pumped, food storage rots, medical life support shuts down, etc. If we were a properly functioning society, everything would be geared towards self-sufficiency. If you could produce your own food and your own medical treatments, you wouldn't depend on corporations and governments.
There's so much to unpack from such a simple question, though. The very concept of government has moved far beyond what the Founders envisioned, and corporations well beyond anything the free market could have night terrors over. No one owns land, everything is rapidly moving towards subscription economics, churn has replaced art, and people are kept distracted with bread and circuses. At this point, my best solution is to formulate what, precisely, kind of society we need to live in and work towards making that happen. But we cannot just tear down this society first, because the shockwave will be catastrophic. It must be a transition. -

In theory, that's about the right way, but in practice it won't work. The current system is hypervigilant against any movement away from its power. Remember Torba and his "parallel economy"? Same sort of thing will happen, send in the sliders to derail the conversation, send in the lefties to disrupt everything, and if shit still persists, send in the hedge fundies to force sales and buy up everything. There's always a Cypher in every group willing to sell out for a fake steak. If there is to be a transition to a different system, we must first seize control of the current system, which itself leads to a very dangerous situation. If you're in control of a vast and powerful socio-economic empire, why would you destroy that? Too many would just keep it going. -

Certainly would eliminate those bullshit jobs, like Regional Color Manager or Diversity Equity Supervisor. How many of them have jobs where typing strings of shitty words into a sharticle earns them money? How fast would Twitch and the vtuber thing die when people no longer have "disposable" income? It would be a glorious shitshow!
My best advice is: learn how to produce your own foods now. Gather seeds and tools. Detach yourself as much as you can from the system and be ready for the collapse. -

Imagine being in the government that oversees a self-sufficient population, everyone producing to meet their needs. Granted no one can produce everything, but that's what the free market is for. At that point, the government would really only be needed to see to national defense (as opposed to the current US model of global power projection). It would be reduced to mere coordination of effort towards greater self-sufficiency. There is absolutely no reason why the US, for example, cannot sustain itself in perpetuity without much in the way of global trade. This is why we have this push towards globalism today, because global trade powers demand the elimination of national boundaries that prevent the smooth flow of goods and services. -

All of it. My family used to think I was a weird kid for not having many foods I refuse to eat. Apparently I broke their understanding of children. What drove them even more nuts is, being autistic, I'd make sure absolutely no food touched another, eat one at a time finishing each before moving on to the next (usually vegetables because I wanted them warm to keep the butter liquid). -
