@thomasfuchs projected gains for Plaid? Nice.

@mcc Yeah. I was very excited, but then slightly less so when I noticed "invited". Still, inching closer to punting the HR Block software once and for all.

@evan imagine spending the time to legislate against people abroad voting, given they're almost certainly a fraction of the number of domestic folks who *don't* vote. Invest that energy in making it easier for everyone to vote.
I'm glad they UK recently overturned the law that said I couldn't vote after 15 years abroad.

@thomasfuchs I mean, for years Terry Wogan would try not to reveal how drunk he was and spend the evening remarking on the politics, as he commentated for the BBC. It has always been nakedly political, as seen by who votes for who.

@evan No, although who is arming Hamas? The West has a long, storied history of geopolitic interference, wouldn't surprise me if someone else was returning the favor.

@thomasfuchs I see all the cosplay stuff they wear to protect themselves from unarmed college students partially obscures their name tag.

@thomasfuchs Still had mine from when this launched, until recently. Gave it to my brother in law for his 40th.
Perfect working order! Until the Switch, this was the last machine I had on which both Nintendo and Sega published games.

@w7voa This is the plane that assembly line Boeing employees are on camera saying they wouldn't fly on, as shown on that recent Last Week Tonight.
Are other manufacturers not having issues of late, or is this selection bias and I'm only noticing Boeing incidents?

@thomasfuchs There has always been an implied air of me being the "right" kind of immigrant with certain folks here I know, and it's utterly nauseating.

@thomasfuchs I agree completely, although just want to caveat that I've enjoyed some aspects of VR. I played a game called Super Hot on my son's Quest 2 and it was... extraordinary. Like, roll on the holodeck levels of immersion.
Of course, the whole *verse thing is just rehashed Second Life cobblers, into the sea with that.

@HauntedOwlbear At some point, I suspect people who don't want to see any Threads will defederate anyone who hasn't defederated Threads. That's when we'll all start losing contacts. Probably unknowingly.

@davidrevoy Mastodon really ought to have provided much better information to people regarding losing follows when moderation like this takes place. I have absolutely no idea who I'm about to no longer be in contact with as Threads causes this schism. The onus should never have been on me, the individual. It's a total UX own goal.
edit - I know you have your hands full and I apologize for tagging you out of the blue, but this is such a big deal @Gargron

@thomasfuchs Not directed at you, but more of a "I lack the ability to quote post" so I'm unsure how to pose this question. Hopefully someone reading this will know:
Why are we ceasing production of ICE and switching to EVs? Grasping for a cynical reason, to give car manufacturers their 3D Blu Ray or 4k TV moment?

@thomasfuchs Just knowing how wide they are, those are unfathomably tall. It makes much more sense that PCs of that vintage used to advertise half-height drives as a feature (or at least, I have vague recollections of this).

@thomasfuchs Dang, is that a full-height 5.25 floppy drive? I'm not entirely sure I've ever seen one of those in the flesh.
