@_elena Thank you for the shoutout, and for writing this, I have the same view of the #Fediverse which gives us the opportunity to all be active contributors - at our own scale - rather than passive consumers, I really appreciate how you put it in words with a experienced example and even practical suggestions for contributions.. Bravo! 🙌❤️
@stux@matt@Dhmspector this is not the same account as above though. Is the first one the official "Potus" account, and the second one the personal account of Trump? #UsPol#Facebook
@acs Maybe, but again, nobody here wants ads. The clearest advantage of this place over all the for-profit ones is that it has no ads and I hope it stays like that for ever.
Also, it's not that we need ads, there are have other ways to support our instances, like donations, contributing some time, funding by grants or other no-strings-attached sources.
The attention-sucking, consumerist, privacy-invading ad system that people are getting so used to is not the only way to go!
These days you wonder what would it take for non-nazi people to reject Elon Musk. One would have thought that doing an enthousiastic Nazi salute twice in front of a large audience, on live TV, would be that thing. Apparently not, so what can we do? We can denounce these collaborators when we see them.
Maybe you're not 100% sure that he did it? I found it hard to believe from just the photo. But there is no denying it:
He was filmed doing it, again, very enthusiastically, very clearly, twice. The video is shocking.
He was giving a speech in front of a crowd and the world. You rehearse that kind of speech. The salutes were non-hesitant and clearly rehearsed. Several people must have told him "are you reaaaally sure about these Nazi salutes in your speech? You know it will be on camera" and he decided to go for it. He cannot not be aware that it was a Nazi salute.
experts of fascism say that it was a clear Nazi salute:
"L’historienne Claire Aubin, spécialiste du nazisme aux Etats-Unis, a estimé que le geste d’Elon Musk était bien un « sieg heil », le salut nazi. Autre historienne experte sur le fascisme, Ruth Ben-Ghiat a également affirmé sur X que « c’était bien un salut nazi, et un qui était bien agressif en plus de cela"
If a non-Nazi person had done a gesture which might have been misinterpreted even from far away to be a Nazi salute, they would immediately 1) deny 2) apologize 3) reassure people that they will never, ever do it again. Musk did not do * any * of these corrective actions
Instead, Musk retwitted the video where he did the salute
Musk did not mention the salutes for several hours after making them
Later on, he tweeted "thanks guys 😂" to the ADL which denied he did a Nazi salute. Because the first reaction of people being accused of that is obviously to.. find it funny?
Quoting some other post about it, again he did not deny but deflected:
"Frankly, they need better dirty tricks. The 'everyone is Hitler' attack is sooo tired."
Typical answer of the bad guy in a crime movie when directly asked "did you kill the victim": "I can't believe you would dare accuse me of that and I am shocked". When it just takes a few words to deny.
@evan oh from your second post it seems you mean transfer of information during your lifetime ? I thought reincarnation was supposed to be after one's death...
Not sooo many but it might help you find your people! The problem with federation is you will only see hashtags from posts that your server is already aware of (I think) so you won't see them all.. It takes some time to build your community.
That's why having #PublicLists would be really helpful!!
@RustyRing You haven't witnessed the racist and abusive behaviour because, currently, Mastodon users cannot see all the replies of any given post, due to the way Mastodon works.
A solution has been implemented on our instance, and I can now see all replies to a post if I want and it makes a huge difference! I can see the spam, the nasty posts, and the well-intentioned users just repeating the same thing over and over again because they can't see that someone else already said it.
